In addition, Germany is a motorhome country with plenty of pitches, many of which are well serviced. Vehicles with a total weight of over 7.5 tonnes pay a charge for driving on motorways, but this does not apply to motorhomes. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Environmental zones:<\/strong>&nbsp;The city centres of several cities are classified as 'Umweltzonen', where older diesel vehicles are not allowed to drive. To drive in these zones, a sticker must be obtained and attached to the windscreen. The sticker can be ordered in advance from DEKRA.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Speed limits:<\/strong>&nbsp;If you are driving a car or motorhome under 3.5 tonnes, there is a \"free speed\" limit on motorways. Heavier motorhomes can travel at a maximum speed of 100 km\/h on motorways (except where there are overtaking restrictions, where the maximum speed is 80 km\/h) and 80 km\/h on roads.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Per mille limit:<\/strong>&nbsp;0.5 (0.0 for new licence holders, and for drivers under 21)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Traffic rules:<\/strong>&nbsp;Talking on a handheld phone and sending text messages while driving is prohibited. If you get out of your car on a busy road, you must wear a reflective vest.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Words in traffic:<\/strong>&nbsp;\"Staugefahr\" means risk of queuing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fuel:<\/strong>&nbsp; So-called 'city diesel' is cleaner, and more expensive, than regular diesel. Biodiesel 100 is pure rapeseed oil and requires a specially adapted engine. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Parking rules:<\/strong>&nbsp;\"Kurzparkzone\" means time-limited parking (you can use a parking disc) and \"geb\u00fchrenpflichtig\" means you have to pay for parking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Security:<\/strong>&nbsp;Make sure you have Roadside Assistance, so that you can get help on the spot in case of an accident. The emergency number for the country's emergency services is 112.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-regler-om-camping-och-stallplatser-i-tyskland\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Regler_om_camping_och_stallplatser_i_Tyskland\"><\/span>Rules on camping and pitches in Germany<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There really are lots of campsites and caravan parks in Germany.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Free camping is only permitted if the landowner has given permission.
