It includes Myanmar (formerly Burma), Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia, East Timor, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore and the Philippines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The area has a tropical climate, with monsoonal winds and large amounts of rain during the rainy season, which usually runs from May to November. Historically, many of these countries have been involved in wars and unrest, such as the Vietnam War in the 1960s and 1970s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, many of the countries in the region have a strong focus on tourism. There are plenty of islands and paradisiacal beaches, and the countries attract visitors with sun and swimming, snorkelling, diving and boat trips.
