We took a taxi to a motorhome company and rented a small 5.40 metre motorhome to take us around Ireland. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ferry: <\/strong>Another option is to take a ferry from the UK or France.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-vagar-och-korning-pa-irland\">Roads and driving in Ireland<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Roads:&nbsp;<\/strong>Ireland has left-hand traffic, and many roads are very narrow, sometimes with high kerbs. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Road tolls:<\/strong>\u00a0 On most roads there are no tolls, but there are bridges, tunnels and occasional motorway sections where there is a charge. The toll is usually paid at toll booths, but there is also a stretch outside Dublin that has no toll booth. You can pay afterwards via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.payzone.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pay zone<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eflow.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">eflow<\/a>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Speed limits:<\/strong>&nbsp;Passenger cars and camper vans under 3.5 tonnes drive on the 120 motorway, 80 or 100. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes must not exceed 80 km\/h.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Per mille limit:<\/strong>&nbsp;0.5 (0.2 for new licence holders)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Traffic rules:<\/strong>&nbsp;Talking on a handheld phone and sending text messages while driving is prohibited.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Words in traffic:<\/strong>&nbsp;Yield means giving preference <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fuel:<\/strong>&nbsp; Diesel and 95 and 98 octane petrol. There are also plenty of charging points for electric cars.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Parking rules:<\/strong>&nbsp;A parking disc is used in some places.  <br>The wheels of wrongly parked cars can be locked and will be unlocked once the fine has been paid. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Security:<\/strong>&nbsp;Make sure you have Roadside Assistance, so that you can get help on the spot in case of an accident. The emergency number for the country's emergency services is 112.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-regler-om-camping-och-stallplatser-pa-irland\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Regler_om_camping_och_stallplatser_pa_Irland\"><\/span>Rules on camping and caravanning in Ireland<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There are plenty of campsites in Ireland and Northern Ireland.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Instead of traditional caravanning sites in Ireland, Safe Nights Ireland is a membership scheme that provides access to around 350 basic caravanning sites in Ireland.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Free camping is only allowed if the landowner has given permission.
