But that doesn&#039;t have to be the case. And yes, we still think Gothenburg is a really nice city!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A big advantage of Gothenburg as an autumn city is that you don&#039;t have to choose between city and sea. This time, culture was primarily on the agenda, and we managed to make several really interesting visits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Sandgrund Lars Lerin you can see works by the V\u00e4rmland artist Lars Lerin, and at V\u00e4rmlands Museum there is both art, cultural history and stories about the landscape. The location by Lake V\u00e4ttern is beautiful, the city center is charming and almost everywhere you are reminded of the city&#039;s long and exciting history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here you will find Vadstena Castle, the monastery area and of course the story of Saint Birgitta. When our South African friends were visiting, we arranged our own little \u201dWomen&#039;s Day\u201d. First we went to Gr\u00e4nna, where Amalia Eriksson became famous as the creator of the candy cane, and then on to Vadstena and Saint Birgitta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vadstena is a great place for those who want a quieter autumn weekend. Here we have learned a lot about Swedish history, while the building itself and the environment are an experience in themselves. Even though we have been here several times, we still don&#039;t have a proper Uppsala report. I (Helena) even studied for a semester at Uppsala University. During that period I had a bicycle parked at the station, so that I could jump on it and cycle directly to the university when the train arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a weekend city, Uppsala has a lot to offer. Here you will find the cathedral, the university environments, the Fyris\u00e5n River, museums and the Botanical Garden. During the autumn the parks become beautiful and when the weather feels less inviting there is plenty of culture and history to discover indoors. They really appreciated the historical setting \u2013 and the beautiful winter landscape. Stockholm is our hometown and therefore almost the hardest to describe briefly. We live on a houseboat in Pampas marina in Solna and move around a lot on Kungsholmen and in central Stockholm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the things we love most about Stockholm is the water. The weather also varies from year to year, of course, but in a simplified way you can think of it like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>September<\/strong> is a good fit if you want to enjoy a lot of outdoor life. The days are still relatively long and a lot of seasonal businesses are still open. Some years, the beginning of the month feels almost like summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>October<\/strong> is the month for the classic autumn feeling. The leaves change color, the air becomes crisper and it suddenly feels just right to have warming food, visits to cafes and cozy hotel evenings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>November<\/strong> is darker and more weather-dependent. Then it might be smart to choose a slightly larger city or a destination with good museums, restaurants and other indoor experiences. Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malm\u00f6, Lund, Uppsala, \u00d6rebro and Karlstad are some good examples.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tag_bil_eller_husbil_pa_hostweekend\"><\/span>Train, car or camper on an autumn weekend?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We travel in all sorts of ways and don&#039;t think one is always better than the other. To cities like Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malm\u00f6, Lund and Uppsala, the train is smooth, and once there you hardly need a car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A car gives you more freedom to make excursions. It can be especially valuable if, for example, you want to combine Ystad with \u00d6sterlen or discover places around Helsingborg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And then of course we have the camper. We also like to roll away in the fall, when campsites and motorhomes are quieter and it&#039;s extra cozy to crawl into the camper in the evening.
