This used to be Sweden's Hollywood. When we lived in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freedomtravel.se\/en\/2021\/03\/gora-i-sundbyberg\/\">Sundbyberg<\/a> we were sometimes here at the cinema. Now we stopped during one of our bike rides, and took the opportunity to check out the exhibition on the 100-year history of the Film City. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, perhaps the world's most modern film studio was built. They often used backdrops to make it look like they were somewhere else in the world. On Ivar Kreuger's advice, AB Svensk Filmindustri was formed through a merger between Svenska Bio and Skandia in Stocksund.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Autumn 1919: <\/strong>Even before the facility was completed, the first film was shot, 'The Driver' by Victor Sj\u00f6str\u00f6m.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1920s: <\/strong>Young extra Greta Gustafsson finally got a major role in 'G\u00f6sta Berling's Saga', written by Selma Lagerl\u00f6f. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1929: <\/strong>The first Swedish sound film, \"S\u00e4g det i toner\" with Elisabet Frisk and H\u00e5kan Westergren was recorded in Filmstaden.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-1930-talet\">1930s<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>1930s: <\/strong>The talkies were a big hit. Times were tough in Sweden, and people appreciated light-hearted uplifting entertainment such as so-called 'Pilsner films'. Actors during this period included Tutta Rolf, Sickan Carlsson, Nils Poppe, Thor Mod\u00e9en and Anna-Lisa Ericson.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1934:<\/strong> Ingrid Bergman made her debut in 'Munkbrogreven'.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1936: <\/strong>Ingrid Bergman's breakthrough came in 'Intermezzo' against G\u00f6sta Ekman. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-1940-talet\">1940s<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>1940s:<\/strong> Ingmar Bergman made his debut. Other names from this period include Hasse Ekman, Gustaf Molander and Alf Sj\u00f6berg.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1944: <\/strong>The hit film 'Hets' was released, directed by Alf Sj\u00f6berg from a script by a young Ingmar Bergman. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1945:<\/strong> Bergman directed his first film 'Kris', which has since been condemned as a disaster. He misbehaved and was fired from Filmstaden R\u00e5sunda, but after the success of 'Music in the Dark' he was welcomed back.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-1950-och-1960-talet\">1950s and 1960s<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>1950s: <\/strong>Ingmar Bergman had many successes with films such as 'Summer with Monika', 'The Smile of the Summer Night', 'The Strawberry Patch' and 'The Seventh Seal'. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1954:<\/strong> The first colour film was shot in R\u00e5sunda. Gustaf Molander (who has directed over 50 films in Filmstaden R\u00e5sunda!) adapted \"Herr Arnes penningar\". &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1960s:<\/strong> New technologies and influences came along, and directors wanted to film in real environments. The studios were no longer suitable, and they were increasingly disturbed by increased traffic, buildings and aeroplanes. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1969: <\/strong>Svensk Filmindustri left Filmstaden and moved to smaller premises in Stocksund. Activities were greatly reduced, but films were still made.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-modern-historia\">Modern history<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>1970s: <\/strong>Major films during this period were 'The Emigrants' and 'Pippi Longstocking on the Seven Seas', which were partly filmed in the Filmstaden R\u00e5sunda. The National Stage School and Riksteatern used the premises for theatre.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1990s:<\/strong> Skanska bought the land to build housing, but the economic crisis put a stop to it. Meanwhile, the association 'Bevara gamla Filmstaden' worked to save the area. Production companies rented the premises and films were made again, such as 'The Glassblower's Child', 'Veranda for a Tenor', 'Bert - the Last Virgin' and the TV series 'The Archipelago Doctor'. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1999: <\/strong>The final films were produced at Filmstaden R\u00e5sunda.
