Farm may not meet the criteria for a castle, it's a place we were keen to visit. Around 1180, Julita Monastery was founded on the site and operated until the 16th century. Later, the estate became the property of the Palbitzki family, and remained so for several hundred years. An older main building was built in the 17th century, which burned down in the 18th century. Co, then owned by Johan B\u00e4ckstr\u00f6m. His son, Artur B\u00e4ckstr\u00f6m, was very interested in the cultural and historical value of the farm and had it renovated, improved and a museum built. That's why we were a bit surprised when the entrance saw <em>very<\/em> closed out. There is also a so-called 'clone archive' for fruit. This means that old varieties of fruit trees are preserved in a national gene bank, partly at the Agricultural University in Alnarp and partly here at Julita. The cultivation has been moved to the University of Agriculture in Alnarp, but hop clones have found a new place in the kitchen garden.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The kitchen garden: <\/strong>This garden has been on the same site since the 19th century, but is lying fallow in 2021.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Piont garden: <\/strong>A collection of 130 different species and varieties.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Roseng\u00e5rden: <\/strong>Started to be built in the 1910s, but has since been modified and simplified.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-historia-pa-julita-gard\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Historia_pa_Julita_gard\"><\/span>History at Julita farm<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Viking Age:<\/strong> There was probably a great manor house here as early as the Viking Age. There is a rune stone in the courtyard.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1180: <\/strong>Around this time, Julita Farm became the site of Julita Abbey, when Knut Eriksson donated\/exchanged Julita to the Cistercian Order.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-1500-tal-till-1700-tal\">16th to 18th century<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>16th century: <\/strong>The monastery was closed during the Reformation and the Julita estate was formed. The estate went to Olof Arvidsson (Stenbock) and in 1564 to J\u00f6ran Persson.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1569:<\/strong> The Julita estate fell to Duke Karl, who lived partly on the estate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1622:<\/strong> Gustav II Adolf gave the estate to his mother, Queen Dowager Kristina.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>17th century:<\/strong> An older main building was built. After the death of the Dowager Queen Christina, the estate passed to the Austrian Colonel Melchior von Wurmbrandt, and later became the property of the Palbitzki family. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>18th century: <\/strong>The older main building was destroyed in a fire.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1730s:<\/strong> A new larger main building was erected, in a classicist style.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-1800-tal-till-nutid\">19th century to the present<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>1876: <\/strong>The Palbitzki family sold Julita to the tobacco company Wilhem Hellgren &amp; Co, then owned by Johan B\u00e4ckstr\u00f6m. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>20th century:<\/strong> Johan B\u00e4ckstr\u00f6m's son, Artur B\u00e4ckstr\u00f6m, took over Julita and had many renovations and changes made to the main building and the farm.
