Landskrona Citadel \u2013 the fortress with a dramatic history<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If we were to recommend just one attraction in Landskrona, it would undoubtedly be Landskrona Citadel. The mighty fortress began construction in the 16th century and is surrounded by double moats, bastions and beautiful green areas. We went on a guided tour and heard so many fascinating stories that it became one of our most memorable visits to the city. The moose supposedly came to a party at the castle, drank too much alcohol and then fell down a flight of stairs and broke its leg. It sounds almost too crazy to be true, but it is one of the stories that are still told about Tycho Brahe. We also got to see the old dungeon, where prisoners were once lowered through a hole in the ceiling. The Citadel was used as a women&#039;s prison for a period, and Hilda Nilsson, who was convicted of several child murders in the early 1900s, was held here. We got to see the cell where she ended her life, which gave the visit a much darker dimension. After all this dramatic history, something more pleasant was a good fit, so we settled down at Konditori Citadellet and had a delicious shrimp sandwich. Ven \u2013 cycle on the beautiful island in the middle of \u00d6resund<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the best excursions from Landskrona is to take the ferry across to Ven. The crossing takes about half an hour and on the other side you will find open farmland, small roads, steep slopes towards the sea and fantastic views of the Sound. We brought our own bikes on the ferry and set out to discover the island at a leisurely pace. It is a lovely way to travel, as the cycling itself becomes a big part of the experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We cycled through the open landscape and along leafy passages such as the Love Path, stopped at the dramatic Backafallen waterfalls and visited the Tycho Brahe Museum. There we learned more about the astronomer who built observatories on Ven in the 16th century. We also went down to the partially underground Stj\u00e4rneborg Observatory, looked at the view from Sankt Ibb&#039;s Church and visited N\u00e4mndemansg\u00e5rden. But one of our fondest memories is actually much simpler. We looked at alpacas, tried delicious ice cream from Hvens Glassfabrik and discovered that the island has much more to offer than we had first thought. Peter chose rum raisin while I had apple ice cream, and both varieties were clearly approved! Sofia Albertina Church \u2013 Landskrona&#039;s stately church<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sofia Albertina Church is one of the buildings that really stands out in central Landskrona. The church was designed by architect Carl H\u00e5rleman and was completed in 1788. There are several interesting historical objects here, including chandeliers from the 17th century that previously hung in the city&#039;s older church. Landskrona city center \u2013 Town Hall Square and historic buildings<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Landskrona is a city that is well suited to exploring on foot. There are several nice older buildings, open squares and pleasant streets where you can stroll around without any particular plan. We think it is a good way to get to know a city, especially when the sights are as close to each other as they are in Landskrona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have walked around Landskrona on several occasions and appreciate the mix of historical environments and the proximity to the sea. Colony gardens and the Rothoff colony museum \u2013 a green surprise<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the things that really surprised us in Landskrona were all the allotments. We read that approximately every 27 inhabitants had an allotment, which says a lot about how important the allotment culture is here. We really enjoyed walking among the small houses, the flowers and the well-kept gardens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The area also houses the Rothoffska Kolonimuseet, which is housed in an old colonial cottage from 1903. Here you can gain an insight into the history of allotments and how people have used their small plots of land throughout history. Temporary exhibitions are shown here, mainly art, design and photography. We think it&#039;s nice that Landskrona has so many different experiences gathered within a fairly small area. After a visit to the citadel, you can continue through the greenery and discover the art gallery and the sculpture park outside, where there are works by several different artists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#039;s also nice to just stroll around the park area, even if you&#039;re not planning on going to any particular exhibition. The name comes from the brothers Rasmus Andersson Borste and J\u00f6ns Andersson Borste, who helped found the community. There are both old fishermen&#039;s houses and newer buildings, and it is nice to stroll along the water. For those who want to stay longer, there is also a campsite and golf course nearby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the harbor is the Pumphuset cultural center, which houses an art gallery, museum and restaurant. It is an interesting stop for those who want to combine a coastal environment with culture. The promenade and the beaches \u2013 enjoy the \u00d6resund<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Landskrona&#039;s location on the \u00d6resund means that the sea always feels close by. There are several nice walking paths along the water and opportunities for swimming on warm summer days. One of the most central bathing areas is Halvm\u00e5nen, also called Lagunen, which is located near the citadel and the city&#039;s green areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Landskrona you don&#039;t have to choose between the city and the coast, as both are within easy reach. If you want more swimming opportunities, there are also beaches at Borstahusen, \u00c5labodarna and on Ven. For families with children there is also Citadelbadet, an outdoor swimming pool with pools and activities. Hillesh\u00f6g valleys \u2013 nature and views of the Sound<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">About seven kilometers north of Landskrona lies the nature reserve Hillesh\u00f6gs dalar, near Glumsl\u00f6vs backar. Here you will encounter an undulating landscape with green valleys, steep slopes and fine views of the Sound. We parked the camper up by the road and set off on foot in the direction of the sea. It&#039;s almost hard to believe that people built such monuments more than five thousand years ago. We find it fascinating that you can find such ancient historical remains in the middle of a normal excursion along the coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After looking at the footbridge, we continued towards \u00c5labodarnas harbour. Here you will find boat moorings, bathing jetties and the opportunity to eat something. Here, the Sk\u00e5ne Trail sub-route SL5 \u00d6resund passes, which follows the coast through several beautiful areas. The area around the citadel is particularly nice for those who appreciate historical environments and green parks. If you want to live near the sea, Borstahusen can be a good alternative, with beaches, a harbor environment and restaurants.
