As we walked forward, new figures slowly emerged from the mist, while the pinnacles and towers on the other side could only be glimpsed further away. See the astronomical clock and wait for the chimes<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have seen the astronomical clock on the town hall in the Old Town several times, and usually we have had to crowd in with hundreds of other people waiting for the same thing. But here in Prague, the crowd is almost part of the experience. During our visit to the Christmas market, however, we managed to see the clock when it was considerably quieter, and then it was of course easier to actually see what was happening instead of the back of the person&#039;s head in front.<\/p><div class=\"freed-placering-11 freed-entity-placement\" style=\"text-align: center;\" id=\"freed-2107805567\"><div Suddenly, almost all sound disappeared and it felt like entering another world. Stroll through the narrow alleys, browse the small shops or sit down at one of the restaurants and outdoor cafes. Go up to Pet\u0159\u00edn Hill \u2013 Prague\u2019s green viewpoint<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After alleys, squares, churches and crowds of people, Pet\u0159\u00edn Hill is a nice contrast. Up here, we remember above all the greenery, the tranquility and one of the best views we have had over Prague. The hill is filled with parks, gardens and walking paths, and right next to it is the historic Strahov Monastery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.freedomtravel.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/Senate-tradgard.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.freedomtravel.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/Senate-tradgard-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-150156\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.freedomtravel.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/Senate-tradgard-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.freedomtravel.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/Senate-tradgard-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.freedomtravel.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/Senate-tradgard-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.freedomtravel.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/Senate-tradgard-433x244.jpg 433w, https:\/\/www.freedomtravel.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/Senate-tradgard-600x338.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.freedomtravel.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/Senate-tradgard.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The big eye-catcher is the Pet\u0159\u00edn Tower, which looks like someone ordered the Eiffel Tower but chose the smaller model. The tower was built in 1891 with the Paris model as inspiration and is just under 59 meters high. If you make it to the top, you get a fantastic view of Prague, with the city&#039;s roofs, towers, Prague Castle and the Vltava far below.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But we don&#039;t think you should go here just for the tower. Pet\u0159\u00edn is also a place to slow down, stroll through the greenery and just be for a while. See Prague from the Vltava River \u2013 the boat trip we still have<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We almost always try to see a city from the water when we have the opportunity. Yet we managed to visit Prague several times without going out on the Vltava. It wasn&#039;t until we were sitting at the airport after the last trip that I looked at Helena and realized what we had done. \u2013 Damn. We had walked across Charles Bridge, seen the Vltava from Prague Castle and Pet\u0159\u00edn, and moved back and forth along the river \u2013 but never seen Prague from the water itself. Meanwhile, the boats were gliding around down there full of people, getting to see the city from exactly the perspective we had missed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So this time our tip may be a little different:&nbsp;<strong>Don&#039;t do like us.<\/strong>&nbsp;Take a boat trip on the Vltava and see Charles Bridge, Prague Castle and the city skyline from the river. Go up the Zizkov Tower \u2013 views, giant babies and dinner at altitude<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prague is full of old church towers, spires and historic buildings, and then suddenly there&#039;s the \u017di\u017ekov Tower. Here you\u2019re indoors, don\u2019t have to worry about the weather, and can see the city in 360 degrees. There are also rooms where you can sit down and just enjoy the view \u2013 we particularly remember a strange room with chairs hanging from the ceiling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But we weren&#039;t content with just looking. High up in the tower is the restaurant Oblaca, where we had a long and really good dinner while Prague spread out far below us. Eat and drink your way through Prague<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can of course survive a weekend in Prague by sightseeing, but it would be almost a disservice not to also eat and drink your way through the city. Once it was duck with dumplings and two kinds of cabbage, and on a later visit we came back as part of a four-hour food tour. For a few hours, you not only get to taste the food, but also follow a local guide to places you might never have found on your own and hear the stories behind what ends up on your plate. Kutn\u00e1 Hora is an old silver town with cobblestone alleys, beautiful historic houses and the impressive Church of St. Barbara. From the outside, the small chapel looks quite innocent. Then you step inside and discover that the interior consists of bones and skulls from around&nbsp;<strong>40,000 people<\/strong>. At some point, someone has stood with thousands of legs in front of them and thought something like:&nbsp;<strong>\u201dYou know what this church needs? Stroll through the greenery and ride or climb the Pet\u0159\u00edn Tower for views of Prague.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Morning:<\/strong>&nbsp;Make your way back through Mal\u00e1 Strana and feel free to stop in one of the area&#039;s gardens.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lunch:<\/strong>&nbsp;Make lunch part of the experience \u2013 or book one&nbsp;<strong>food tour<\/strong>&nbsp;and let a few hours be about Czech food and beer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Afternoon:<\/strong>&nbsp;Go up the \u017di\u017ekov Tower for a completely different view of Prague and meet David \u010cern\u00fd&#039;s giant babies along the way.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Evening:<\/strong>&nbsp;Here&#039;s our advice that we missed ourselves: take a boat trip on the Vltava. The boat trip!\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-var-kan-man-bo-i-prag\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Basta_omradena_att_bo_i_Prag\"><\/span>Best areas to stay in Prague<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prague is relatively compact and many of the major sights are within walking distance of each other. For a first visit, we would especially choose\u00a0<strong>Old Town <\/strong>or<strong> Mal\u00e1 Strana<\/strong>, while Nov\u00e9 M\u011bsto and Vinohrady are better suited if you want to stay a little outside the most touristy neighborhoods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">OLD TOWN \u2013 BEST FOR A FIRST VISIT<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stay in the middle of the historic quarter, within walking distance of Charles Bridge, the Astronomical Clock and many restaurants. The location is hard to beat, but expect lots of people and often higher prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">MAL\u00c1 STRANA \u2013 BEAUTIFUL AND CLOSE TO PRAGUE<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here you live on the other side of Charles Bridge, among old houses, alleys and restaurants with Prague Castle above you. There are plenty of hotels, restaurants and good public transport, while the city center is still reachable on foot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">VINOHRADY \u2013 FOR MORE EVERYDAY FEELING<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vinohrady is suitable for those who prefer to live among cafes, restaurants and residential areas rather than in the middle of Prague&#039;s biggest attractions. You will be a little further from the historic core but in return you will get a quieter base and can easily get into the city center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-basta-omradena-att-bo-i-och-utforska\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Campsites and motorhome parking spaces<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have visited Prague ourselves with a camper van and stayed at&nbsp;<strong>Camping Sokol<\/strong>&nbsp;outside the city center. From there we could leave the camper at the campsite and take public transport into central Prague, which we think is much easier than trying to drive a camper around the city&#039;s historic districts. If you have three days, we would use the extra day for a trip to Kutn\u00e1 Hora and the Sedlec Skeleton Church. Prague is also a city we like to return to \u2013 we have been here several times and still have the boat devil on the Vltava left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CAN YOU DISCOVER PRAGUE ON FOOT?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, and that&#039;s actually how we like to experience Prague best. Many of the major sights are located relatively close to each other and the walks between the Old Town, Charles Bridge, Mal\u00e1 Strana and Prague Castle are a big part of the experience. Bring comfortable shoes - cobblestones are much more charming in pictures than underfoot after a full day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">IS PRAGUE a cheap city to visit?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prague is no longer the super cheap capital that many people may remember, but compared to many other popular European cities, a trip can still be relatively affordable. The Czech Republic is one of the cheaper parts of Europe, although Prague is generally more expensive than smaller Czech cities. Food, local transport and, above all, Czech beer can still provide a lot of vacation value for your money \u2013 especially if you leave the most touristy areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CAN YOU VISIT PRAGUE WITH A MOTORHOME?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, we have visited Prague ourselves with a camper van and stayed at Camping Sokol outside the city centre. For us, it works better to leave the camper van at a campsite and get into central Prague than to try to drive around the historic quarters.
