class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sl\u00e5ttdalsskrevan is located in the middle of Skuleskogen National Park and can be reached from the park&#039;s three entrances. We chose Entrance South, which provides the shortest route to the crevasse and is well suited for a day hike that also includes Sl\u00e5ttdalsberget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One important thing has changed since our hike in 2023. It is no longer permitted to walk through the Sl\u00e5ttdalsskrevan itself. From the E4 it is about eight kilometers to the entrance, where there is parking, toilets and information about the national park. Large parts are on wooden trestles and the terrain is quite flat or only slightly rising in places. So this is not a hike where you struggle from the first step. The pace slowed down and in some places it got really steep. We recommend good shoes with good grip and above all don&#039;t let the relatively short distance fool you. Also bring water. When the vertical rock walls suddenly rise in front of you, the proportions become completely different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sl\u00e5ttdalsskrevan is about 200 meters long and seven meters wide, with vertical rock walls that reach about 30\u201340 meters in height. It cuts through Sl\u00e5ttdalsberget and looks almost too perfect to have been created by nature. We came to think of Ronja R\u00f6vardotter unintentionally. The surrounding northern grey granite was harder, while the diabase was more easily weathered and eroded away over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ice ages, ocean waves and land uplift then continued their work over enormous periods of time. What remained was the deep, narrow crevice that today divides the northern part of Sl\u00e5ttdalsberget. At first we didn&#039;t understand what was going on, but down at the crevasse we met a man who worked for the national park. He told us that the passage through Sl\u00e5ttdalsskrevan was going to be closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The helicopter was transporting materials to be used when the hiking trail was rerouted. The risk of falling rocks, boulders and ice meant that the safety of visitors could no longer be guaranteed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But as we stood there, the passage was still open for a few more days. We had to go through at our own risk. The advice we were given was clear: keep your distance, don&#039;t talk, and don&#039;t stand in the gap. In here you really understand how big Sl\u00e5ttdalsskrevan is. The people become small and the rock walls enormous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A few days later it would no longer be possible to do the same hike. That is why the pictures from that day have taken on a different meaning for us over time. You can still hike to the site and experience the crevasse. What is closed is&nbsp;<strong>the passage through the crack itself<\/strong>. The background is the risk of landslides and falling rocks and ice from the high rock walls. And we would still absolutely recommend the hike. You can still reach Sl\u00e5ttdalsskrevan and experience the formation, while the hike over Sl\u00e5ttdalsberget offers a completely different highlight. So it is wrong to think:&nbsp;<em>\u201d&quot;The library is closed, so there&#039;s no reason to go there.&quot;\u201d<\/em> There is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Missa_inte_Slattdalsberget\"><\/span>Don&#039;t miss Sl\u00e5ttdalsberget<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We went here for the Sl\u00e5ttdalsskrevan, but the view from Sl\u00e5ttdalsberget was just as much a part of the experience. After our hike through the crevasse, we went up the mountain. Here the landscape opened up completely and suddenly we found ourselves above the forest with the High Coast spread out before us. It is difficult to describe the feeling in any other way than that you are&nbsp;<strong>above everything<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We took out our lunch bag and sat down with the view in front of us. A little further away we met two other couples and stood for a while talking while the helicopter continued back and forth with building materials down at Sl\u00e5ttdalsskrevan. We think it is an important part of the entire hike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here you get great views of the mountains, forests and sea of the High Coast, and the national park also recommends the hike over Sl\u00e5ttdalsberget today. They are one of the clearest traces of the enormous land uplift that has made the High Coast the landscape we see today. Above all, we think you shouldn&#039;t plan this excursion too sparingly. From there it is about eight kilometers to the national park entrance. There is parking, toilets and information boards here. For us, it worked perfectly as a base because we could do several of our hikes in the High Coast from the same area. Allow considerably more time than the actual walking time if you also want to go up Sl\u00e5ttdalsberget, take photos and take a packed lunch break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is Sl\u00e5ttdalsskrevan closed?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sl\u00e5ttdalsskrevan can still be visited. It is&nbsp;<strong>the passage through the fissure itself which is closed<\/strong>. The hiking trail has been rerouted and visitors should follow the current marked trail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can you walk through Sl\u00e5ttdalsskrevan?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No. The passage through Sl\u00e5ttdalsskrevan is closed for safety reasons. We went through the crevasse in May 2023, just before the passage was closed, but today&#039;s visitors will follow the rerouted trail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which entrance is best to Sl\u00e5ttdalsskrevan?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Entrance South provides the shortest hike and was also the entrance we chose. Entrance North and Entrance West are alternatives for those who want to do a longer hike or experience other parts of Skuleskogen National Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How strenuous is the hike to Sl\u00e5ttdalsskrevan?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the South Entrance, the hike is varied. Some parts are relatively easy and walk on footbridges, while other parts are rocky, root-filled and considerably steeper.
