Here you can walk inside thick stone walls, look out over the fishing boats and stroll among old houses, restaurants and shops. Inside the walls, narrow streets and old houses await, and if you have even the slightest bit of imagination, it&#039;s not that hard to imagine the place in a completely different era. From here you get a view of the harbor, the boats and the modern city on the other side of the water. During the summer, there are likely to be significantly more people here than when we visited the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We were in Concarneau in the middle of winter and instead encountered an almost sleepy Ville Close. Most of it was quiet and we could walk around at our own pace. Discover Concarneau&#039;s history as a fishing town<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Concarneau has a strong connection to the sea and fishing. During the 19th century, the city grew outside the walls as fishing and canning became increasingly important. Even today, the port is an important part of Concarneau&#039;s identity, and the boats and quays create a nice contrast to the historic Ville Close.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Ville Close is also located <em>Fishing Museum<\/em>, the fishing museum that tells the story of fishing, boats and life at sea. When we were here, we only noted that \u201dthere should be a fishing museum\u201d. The festival has been organized since 1905 and is still a major event in Concarneau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a few days in August, the area around the harbor and Ville Close is filled with festivities. The contrast to the almost deserted winter city we encountered must be enormous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"7_Se_mer_av_hamnen_och_Concarneau\"><\/span>7. See more of the port and Concarneau<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have more time than we did, there is reason to leave Ville Close and discover more of the city. We only stayed for a few hours before continuing south.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of course, a lot has changed since our visit, so our old information about free parking will have to remain in the history books. Anyone coming with a camper should check the current parking and overnight stay regulations before visiting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the actual city visit, however, Concarneau is convenient. We only stayed a few hours in Concarneau, but the fortified city still made a strong impression on us. Perhaps the time of year contributed to the experience. But Concarneau was a nice end to our trip through the region.
