Every March, the city is filled with enormous Fallas figures, flower parades, fireworks and the spectacular finale, La Crem\u00e0, when almost the entire city is transformed into one big bonfire. class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Las Fallas festival is celebrated every year from March 15-19 in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freedomtravel.se\/en\/2026\/03\/saker-att-gora-i-valencia\/\">Valencia<\/a>, but usually the festivities start as early as March 1. And preparations continue for most of the year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As it approaches, the streets fill with stalls serving beer and food and revelers of all ages. Later, the tradition came to be associated with the patron saint of carpenters, Saint Joseph (San Jos\u00e9). Quite the contrary! People are everywhere and the small stalls in the streets serve everything from beer, fruit drinks and mojitos to candy bars, churros and anything that can be deep-fried. The biggest festivities take place between <strong>March 15 and 19<\/strong>, while several events start as early as the end of February or the beginning of March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why is Las Fallas celebrated?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The festival originated from the carpenters&#039; tradition of burning old wooden scaffolding and leftover materials before spring. Over time, this evolved into large satirical figures and one of Spain&#039;s most spectacular folk festivals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is a fall?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A falla is a large, often several meters high sculpture made of wood, cardboard and other materials. The figures are often humorous or satirical and deal with politics, celebrities or current social issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is Mascleta?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Masclet\u00e0 is a daily pyrotechnic show in Plaza del Ayuntamiento where hundreds of powerful firecrackers are set off in a carefully choreographed rhythm. It&#039;s as much about sound and vibration as it is about visual effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is the Ofrenda de Flores?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Offering of Flowers<\/strong> (flower offering) is one of the most appreciated traditions of the festival. Thousands of falleras and falleros, dressed in traditional Valencian costumes, parade through the city leaving flowers to the Virgin Mar\u00eda de los Desamparados. The flowers form an enormous floral mantle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is La Crem\u00e0?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La Crem\u00e0 is the festival&#039;s grand finale on <strong>March 19<\/strong>, when almost all the Fallas figures are burned in large bonfires. Only one figure \u2013 <em>ninot pardoned<\/em> \u2013 is saved every year through a vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do you need to book accommodation well in advance?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes. Las Fallas attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors and hotels, campsites and apartments are often fully booked months in advance. The earlier you book, the greater the choice and the better the prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is Las Fallas child-friendly?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, but be aware that the festival is very loud. Fireworks, firecrackers and large crowds can be stressful for small children. The flower parade and the large Fallas figures are often better suited to daytime than the fireworks in the evenings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is Las Fallas worth experiencing?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, many consider Las Fallas to be one of the most spectacular festivals in Europe.
