When we visited the mythical city, we therefore had quite high expectations. href=\"https:\/\/www.freedomtravel.se\/en\/2015\/05\/franska-rivieran\/\">French Riviera<\/a> and is today one of the most famous holiday resorts on the Mediterranean. Towards the end of the century, artists and intellectuals began to discover Saint-Tropez. The film <em>And God... created woman<\/em> (<em>And God created woman<\/em>) was filmed here in 1956, starring Brigitte Bardot. The film was an international success and Bardot became strongly associated with Saint-Tropez. Art is actually not a new phenomenon in Saint-Tropez. In the old district of La Ponche, there are still the old fishermen&#039;s houses down by the sea and the small beaches of La Ponche and La Fontanette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the historic environment is now a completely different world. Peter found both a pair of white shorts and a white jacket that would have been perfect for a new life as a jet setter on the Riviera. Unfortunately, the prices also had jet set ambitions. We had walked through the alleys, looked at the harbor, seen the luxury yachts and felt the atmosphere. Everything that Saint-Tropez is known for was there. Maybe we were in the wrong mood. Or maybe Saint-Tropez just isn&#039;t really our kind of place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For us, the city felt a bit expensive and stiff, and we didn&#039;t really find the charm that we experienced in many other places along the French Riviera. And that&#039;s okay. Those who want to stay longer can discover, among other things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Citadel of Saint-Tropez<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 the large fortification above the city was built in the early 17th century. Today it houses the Mus\u00e9e d&#039;Histoire Maritime and offers views of the bay.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Place des Lices<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 a classic square with cafes, restaurants and boules. On Tuesdays and Saturdays, a market is held here.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Annunciation Museum<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 art museum with works by artists who were attracted to Saint-Tropez and the Mediterranean area.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mus\u00e9e de la Gendarmerie et du Cin\u00e9ma<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 museum about both the old gendarmerie and Saint-Tropez&#039;s long connection to the film.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>La Ponche<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 the oldest part of Saint-Tropez, with old fishermen&#039;s houses and small beaches down by the sea.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Saint-Tropez_med_husbil\"><\/span>Saint-Tropez by motorhome<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We arrived in Saint-Tropez by campervan, but chose not to try to get all the way into the centre. Not because we fell in love with the city, but because Saint-Tropez is such a place that it is interesting to have seen with your own eyes. It is fascinating to walk along the harbor, see the luxury yachts and experience the place that has become a symbol of the glamour of the French Riviera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But when we had finished our round, we felt quite satisfied. We walked back to the camper and continued along the Riviera. And with hindsight, we have found several other places along the C\u00f4te d&#039;Azur that suit us much better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just outside, luxury yachts bob up and down, each one larger than the next.
