A book with fantastic language that often makes me smile and want to read it again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-spadomen-av-agneta-pleijel\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Spadomen_av_Agneta_Pleijel\"><\/span>2. <em>Prophecy<\/em> by Agneta Pleijel<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Agneta Pleijel's memoirs describe the life of a 13-year-old professor's daughter in Lund. But then everything falls into place. How do you interpret and deal with the world when you grow up? There are so many things adults never talk about: infidelity when it's obvious, God, the meaning of life... The girl tiptoes and guesses, projects, tries to understand...<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-oppnas-i-handelse-av-min-dod-av-liane-moriarty\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Oppnas_i_handelse_av_min_dod_av_Liane_Moriarty\"><\/span>3. <em>To be opened in case of my death<\/em> by Liane Moriarty<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cecilia finds a letter in the attic written by her husband. \"To be opened in case of my death\" it says. Cecilia refrains from opening it for a long time, but when she realises how stressed her husband is by the discovery of the letter, she can't resist. What is revealed turns life upside down, not only for Cecilia and her husband, but also for a number of other people around them. Do you really know your neighbours? Alba, an elderly woman, observes the wild animals and compares their behaviour with the people on board. A nice and easy-to-read story!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-5-en-man-som-heter-ove-av-fredrik-backman\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_En_man_som_heter_Ove_av_Fredrik_Backman\"><\/span>5. <em>A man called Ove<\/em> by Fredrik Backman<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fredrik Backman's debut novel received very good reviews and I know many people love this book. I can also understand why - it's humorous and at the same time serious. We get to know the bitter man Ove who, while trying to kill himself in different ways, makes new acquaintances and experiences new dimensions of life. In The Confession, you meet an American priest who learns the confession of a dying criminal, which means that he has committed a terrible murder many years ago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A completely different (young, black) man is convicted of the murder and is about to be executed. Is there anything the priest can do and does he have time to intervene before the innocent man is executed? When their father loses his job, he goes into various businesses such as selling cars, property and stolen meat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The increasingly criminal dealings lead, improbably, to a bank robbery by both of Dell's parents. When the parents are caught, the whole family is scattered to the wind and Dell ends up with a distant and very eccentric acquaintance of his mother in the Canadian countryside. The story is nicely told from 15-year-old Dell's perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-8-hagring-38-av-kjell-westo\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"8_Hagring_38_av_Kjell_Westo\"><\/span>8. <em>mirage 38 <\/em>by Kjell West\u00f6<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This book takes us to the intellectual Helsinki of the 1930s. A men's club discusses politics and what is happening in Europe from different political perspectives. The book is not only educational, but also exciting! Throughout the story we follow Mrs Wiik, secretary to one of the members of the men's club, whose dark secret leads in an unexpected direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-9-den-forsta-lognen-av-sara-larsson\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"9_Den_forsta_lognen_av_Sara_Larsson\"><\/span>9. <em>The first lie<\/em> by Sara Larsson<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This book is about rape and men's violence against women, but above all about society's view of violent men and how they are treated by the legal system. This is of course an important topic and you are drawn into the exciting story, which takes place both in the past and present, both in Sweden and in Thailand. I sometimes think that the story is a bit forced and does not reach the end, but it is still worth reading!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-10-att-foda-ett-barn-av-kristina-sandberg\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"10_Att_foda_ett_barn_av_Kristina_Sandberg\"><\/span>10. <em>Giving birth to a child <\/em>by Kristina Sandberg<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a story about Sweden in the 1930s. Maj becomes pregnant and is forced to marry in order to keep her honour. The marriage is not quite what she wanted and while reading the book I'm incessantly happy that I'm not living at that time. The book is an interesting (female) historical account and if you are interested in Swedish home cooking, it is a goldmine! From the first page to the last, you eat your way through the original Swedish cuisine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-11-beckomberga-ode-till-min-familj-av-sara-stridsberg\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"11_Beckomberga_%E2%80%93_Ode_till_min_familj_av_Sara_Stridsberg\"><\/span>11. <em>Beckomberga - Ode to my family<\/em> by Sara Stridsberg<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sara Stridsberg's own father was in Beckomberga mental hospital. This is not an autobiography though, although the main character Jackie's father is also in Beckomberga. I don't know what this is? Sometimes I think it's poetry. In any case, it is incredibly beautifully written, while at the same time it is a historical account of an era in psychiatry that no longer exists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-12-de-utvalda-av-steve-sem-sandberg\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"12_De_utvalda_av_Steve_Sem-Sandberg\"><\/span>12. <em>The selected<\/em> by Steve Sem-Sandberg<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We know (unfortunately) what happened to the Jews during the Second World War. We also know that Nazi Germany, in an attempt to \"purify the race\", wanted to exterminate people with hereditary diseases and other \"bad character traits\". <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But what happened to the disabled and 'imperfect' children? Well, they were sent to clinics like Spiegelgrund. Here 'treatment' meant euthanasia and the parents, who of course asked for their children, were given a restraining order. Worth reading and eye-opening!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-13-expeditionen-min-karlekshistoria-av-bea-uusma\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"13_Expeditionen_Min_karlekshistoria_av_Bea_Uusma\"><\/span>13. <em>Expedition: My love story<\/em>\u00a0by Bea Uusma<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1897, three men travelled to the North Pole in a hydrogen balloon. The Andr\u00e9 expedition was supposed to bring the men fame, but instead all three died. The question is how? Bea Uusma is obsessed with finding out what really happened and spends much of her life investigating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The book describes both the expedition and Bea's search. Sometimes the text is a bit dry and you don't get to know much about Bea as a person. Nevertheless, you get sucked in and become almost as obsessed with the Andr\u00e9 expedition as the author. Fascinating reading!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-14-varfor-kom-du-hit-av-julia-svanberg\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"14_Varfor_kom_du_hit_av_Julia_Svanberg\"><\/span>14. <em>Why did you come here?<\/em>\u00a0by Julia Svanberg<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ellen is a Swedish backpacker who is travelling around Colombia, but only gets as far as a hostel called Parrot. Here she makes friends with the Colombian girl Lila. On the surface they are very similar and they soon call themselves sisters, but the book makes it clear that the difference is huge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The world is unfair and people with different backgrounds and skin colours do not have the same opportunities. Ellen's and Lila's adventures at the Parrot end very differently. Julia Svanberg, who lives in Colombia and runs the blog Mammas Machete, knows her Colombia, which makes the book particularly interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-15-livet-efter-dig-av-jojo-moyes\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"15_Livet_efter_dig_av_Jojo_Moyes\"><\/span>15. <em>Life after you<\/em>\u00a0by Jojo Moyes<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Louisa is a young, inexperienced working class girl with no ambition. Will is a handsome, successful businessman who has travelled all over the world and is used to moving around at upper-class dinners and exclusive skiing holidays. So far, the book is almost reminiscent of 50 Shades of Grey, but there is one big difference - Will is totally paralysed after a motorcycle accident and Louisa gets the job as his assistant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a love story where there is no good ending. In the beginning I thought the book was a bit childishly written, but it grew and by the end it was impossible not to cry rivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-16-barnmorskan-i-east-end-2-av-jennifer-worth\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"16_Barnmorskan_i_East_End_2_av_Jennifer_Worth\"><\/span>16. <em>The Midwife of the East End 2<\/em>\u00a0by Jennifer Worth<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I liked the first book, about the midwives of the nunnery Nonnatus House and the poor people of the Docklands in London in the 1950s. The sequel continues in the same warm spirit and follows one poignant story after another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among other things, you realise the horror of ending up in a poorhouse, even though poorhouses were perhaps a first step for society to take care of those who are unable to do so themselves. A reminder of how good we have it today!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-17-himmelstrand-av-john-ajvide-lindqvist\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"17_Himmelstrand_av_John_Ajvide_Lindqvist\"><\/span>17. <em>Sky Beach<\/em>\u00a0by John Ajvide Lindqvist<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the evening, the people in the four caravans fall asleep on a normal, pleasant Swedish campsite. When they wake up the next day, everything is gone.  All the houses, cars and roads are gone, even the sun is gone, and all that is left is a large field. One by one you get to know the characters in the caravans and one by one they face their demons during the scary reading.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I love Ajvide Lindqvist's mystical books, such as Little Star, perhaps partly because he does what he wants and doesn't care about any rules about how a book\u00a0<em>shall<\/em>\u00a0be. This time, however, he is a little too reminiscent of a pop musician who wants to stop satisfying the audience and instead explore his own anxiety and his own limits. It's fascinating reading, but it's quite difficult to understand ...<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-18-americanah-av-chimamanda-ngozi-adiche\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"18_Americanah_av_Chimamanda_Ngozi_Adiche\"><\/span>18. <em>Americanah<\/em>\u00a0by Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ifemelu and Obinze meet as young people in Nigeria. Obinze constantly dreams of America, but it is Ifemelu who manages to get there and make a life for herself, before returning to Nigeria much later and meeting Obinze again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is not a romance novel, but a book about culture clashes, about race and about how white people look at black people. Sometimes I think the book is unnecessarily long, but many times it works as a real eye-opener.
