After heavy rains, the water rushed through the national park and several trails were flooded or closed. Here the beaches are softer and the lakes are larger, and the hike goes between lakes and many smaller and larger waterfalls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Lower Lakes consist of four lakes<\/strong>&nbsp;which is located down in a narrow limestone canyon with high and steep cliffs. Here the landscape becomes more dramatic and it is also in this part of Plitvice that you will find the mighty Veliki Slap waterfall.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you have plenty of time, we recommend experiencing both the Upper and Lower Lakes. This is also where we started our first visit to Plitvice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Entrance 2<\/strong>&nbsp;is located further south, closer to Lake Kozjak and the Upper Lakes. From here, several of the park&#039;s hiking programs start, taking you through the upper parts of the lake system.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you have a full day, the choice of entrance does not have to be crucial, as several of the longer hiking programs combine the Upper Lakes and Lower Lakes. Then the temperature is more comfortable for hiking, it is generally less crowded and it is easier to stop, take photos and really take in nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Spring<\/strong>&nbsp;is a fantastic period when nature turns green and the waterfalls are often powerful after the winter and spring rainfall. The number of visitors is decreasing, the temperature is good for hiking, and the forest is starting to change color. The price varies depending on the season and during the summer also depending on the time of day you enter. During the high season from 1 June to 30 September 2026, a regular adult ticket costs 40 euros during the day and 25 euros for later entry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We recommend purchasing your ticket online in advance, especially if you are visiting Plitvice during July or August. When booking, you select both the entrance and the time of your visit, and the ticket should be used at the entrance you have chosen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The entrance ticket also includes electric boats and panoramic vehicles when they are used within the visiting program you are following.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Opening hours vary throughout the year.<\/strong>&nbsp;During the summer of 2026, Entrance 1 and Entrance 2 will be open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, while on-site ticket sales will close earlier. For those taking a road trip through Croatia, Plitvice is therefore a natural stop between the coast and the northern parts of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By car:<\/strong>&nbsp;The easiest way to get to Plitvice is by car or camper. Both Entrance 1 and Entrance 2 are located along the road through the national park and there are paid parking lots at both entrances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>From Zagreb:<\/strong>&nbsp;Plitvice is located about 130 kilometers south of Zagreb. Expect a drive of about two hours depending on traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>From Zadar:<\/strong>&nbsp;From Zadar it is about 120 kilometers to Plitvice and the journey takes about 1.5\u20132 hours by car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>From Split:<\/strong>&nbsp;From Split, the distance is about 240\u2013250 kilometers. Expect about 3\u20133.5 hours by car, depending on the road and traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By bus:<\/strong>&nbsp;There are also buses to Plitvice from Zagreb, Zadar and Split, among others, especially during the summer season. Bus stops are located near both Entrance 1 and Entrance 2. There is parking at both Entrance 1 and Entrance 2, and in the area around the national park there are several campsites where you can stay overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two options are&nbsp;<strong>Camp Korana<\/strong>, approximately 6 kilometers from Entrance 1, and&nbsp;<strong>Camp Borje<\/strong>, approximately 16 kilometers from Entrance 2. Both offer spaces for motorhomes and the possibility of transportation between the campsite and the national park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we arrived at Plitvice with a camper van in 2015, we first checked in at Kamp Turist Grabovac. The promised wifi didn&#039;t work there, which was important to us since we were working from the camper van. So after half an hour we checked out again and ended up at the small Camping place Bear instead \u2013 a simple family campsite in a garden where the wifi worked perfectly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It may not have been the most exclusive accommodation during our year-long European trip, but it was one of those little stops that we still remember. You&#039;ll have a calmer experience and better opportunities to take photos before the biggest crowds arrive.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Give Plitvice plenty of time.<\/strong>&nbsp;If you have the opportunity, we would set aside most of the day and choose a route where you get to experience both the Upper Lakes and the Lower Lakes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Book your ticket in advance during high season.<\/strong>&nbsp;You choose the entrance and time when you book, so please decide on a walking route before you buy the ticket.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Wear good shoes.<\/strong>&nbsp;The trails are on both regular paths and wooden bridges and can become slippery when it rains. We know from our own experience how wet it can get in Plitvice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Check the weather and current conditions.<\/strong>&nbsp;Heavy rain and high water may mean that some trails are temporarily closed. Bring rain gear even if the forecast looks good.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bring water.<\/strong>&nbsp;During the summer it can get really hot and a longer hiking route takes several hours.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Don&#039;t stress between attractions.<\/strong>&nbsp;Plitvice is not a place where you just check off Veliki Slap and move on.
