However, we were a little surprised when we arrived. But don&#039;t rush through it! On both doors are twelve medallions representing the months of the year and traditional work and life in the countryside. Between the historic town of Ro\u010d and Hum runs the approximately seven-kilometer-long Glagolitic Avenue, <em>Glagolitic Alley<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Along the path are eleven monuments that tell in different ways about the Glagolitic alphabet, important people and the Glagolitic cultural heritage. The monuments look ancient and could easily give the impression of having stood here for many hundreds of years \u2013 but the avenue itself is considerably younger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project was created by the writer and researcher Zvane \u010crnja and the sculptor \u017delimir Jane\u0161, and the monuments were erected between 1977 and 1985. The last monument is the actual city gate into Hum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What the avenue tells about, however, is much older. The Glagolitic alphabet was created in the 9th century and came to be of great importance in Croatia. The number has varied over the years and different older sources therefore give different figures. In the 2021 Croatian census, 52 inhabitants were registered in the settlement of Hum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is there to see and do in Hum?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite its small size, there is much to discover. You can walk through the historic city gate, stroll among the stone houses, see the churches and bell tower, and learn more about the Glagolitic script.
