V\u00e4ster\u00e5s has several nice older urban environments, and Kyrkbacken is one of our favorites. During one of our motorhome weekends, we walked around for a couple of hours and found it almost impossible to put the camera down.<\/p><div class=\"sharethis-buttons\"><div class=\"st-custom-button\" Along the Svart\u00e5n are older trading and craft farms, and around Bondtorget and Stora torget there are further preserved buildings. We were particularly drawn to the buildings that are located close to the river. The oldest houses probably date from the late 18th or early 19th century, and some are partly built on medieval basements. Students and teachers could be locked up here if they broke school rules, for example through offenses related to alcohol or gambling. Which people walked through the same alleys long before us?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On a sign we read that Lars Westholm built a house in 1778 and that the shed rested on a brick basement that could be older. Such small discoveries make the walk extra interesting. The names arouse curiosity and fit nicely in the historical environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dj\u00e4knegatan was named after the word <em>djekne<\/em>, which was used for a student at the school. Entrances are from Vasagatan and Kyrkbackesgatan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to tradition, the city&#039;s executioner had his own spring here because he was not allowed to use the public well. The water is also said to have been the best in V\u00e4ster\u00e5s. Today, the place is a small green corner with a well basin created by the artist KG Lindholm in 1960.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Forslag_pa_promenad_genom_gamla_Vasteras\"><\/span>Suggestions for a walk through old V\u00e4ster\u00e5s<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you want to combine the locations in the article, we suggest this order:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Start at Svart\u00e5n and look at the older buildings along the water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Continue to Bondtorget and Stora torget.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Continue to the cathedral and Proban.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stroll north through the alleys of Kyrkbacken.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add M\u00e4sterman&#039;s source if you want to explore more of the area.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is our own suggested walk, and you don&#039;t have to follow any exact route. This is our recommendation, there is no fixed walking time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Basis:<\/strong> Kyrkbacken has cobblestones and differences in level. Comfortable shoes are a good choice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Show consideration:<\/strong> Many of the houses are private residences.
