It didn&#039;t really go according to plan. We had managed to find a day when there was no performance. takes place in a romanticized and fictional American Wild West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since 1952, Karl May&#039;s stories have been performed every summer at the large outdoor arena at Kalkberg in Bad Segeberg. During the Thirty Years&#039; War, Swedish troops destroyed Siegesburg in 1644. Several species use the cave for their winter hibernation. Therefore, the cave is not open to regular visits during the winter. Guided visits take place during the part of the year when the bats are not using it as a winter home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#039;s why we were able to walk around the cave without encountering any sleeping bats. Here you can learn more about how bats navigate, what they eat, how they hibernate and what role they play in nature. Right above the entrance to the bat cave, several owls were sitting, watching. There are walking trails here and the opportunity to combine the sights around Kalkberg with a quieter time by the water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bad Segeberg is not a big tourist town with lots of attractions. But the combination is all the more special: a historic rock outcropping, Wild West shows with horses and explosions and an underground winter hotel for thousands of bats.
