class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most common questions we get about travelling with a motorhome in Switzerland is about motorway tolls. Many people are worried that you have to pay for a whole year and that it will be expensive. It is true that you pay for a whole year, but it is not true that it is expensive. It is also very easy to buy the small vignette to be attached to the windscreen. It is available at all petrol stations and some other places. Whether you drive on a motorway, country road or minor roads, you can count on good road standards. However, motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes cannot buy a regular vignette, but pay the Schwerverkehrsabgabe (German) or RPLF (French), a tax based on the type of vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is reported that this fee is currently 3.25 CHF\/day (minimum 25 CHF) or 32.50 CHF for 10 days. It's also worth bearing in mind that Switzerland is not part of the EU, so using your own internet can be very expensive. The best option may be to buy a local SIM card for your phone and add WiFi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Update: Since we wrote this post, Telenor has decided to remove roaming charges in Switzerland. In our experience, English is the language of choice wherever you are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-hur-betalar-man\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Hur_betalar_man\"><\/span>How to pay?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Card payments usually work fine in Switzerland, but it can be practical to have some cash for markets, parking lots, etc. Keep in mind that it may be a good idea to choose a card without exchange rate surcharges if you don&#039;t want to incur unnecessarily high costs on your trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Northmill card is an example of a card that is completely free of charges both at home and abroad. Travel insurance is included and you become a customer in 3 minutes with BankID.&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/go.adt212.net\/t\/t?a=1870916623&amp;as=2058167942&amp;t=2&amp;tk=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Click here to access the registration of a Northmill card<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-vad-finns-i-affarer-och-restauranger\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Vad_finns_i_affarer_och_restauranger\"><\/span>What is available in shops and restaurants?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most of Switzerland has a supermarket called Migros, and in some parts we also saw Lidl and Aldi. In shops and restaurants you will find much the same products as at home, although there is a greater focus on cheese and chocolate.
