Here, the glacial river Hv\u00edt\u00e1 plunges into two mighty falls, surrounded by a barren Icelandic landscape. But Gullfoss also has an exciting history \u2013 in the early 20th century, there were plans to use the waterfall for hydroelectric power, which led to a high-profile fight to preserve it.<\/p><div east of Reykjavik. In addition to these, you can make other shorter stops, for example at the smaller Faxi waterfall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Gullfoss waterfall <\/strong>is an impressively large waterfall, located at the far end of the so-called 'circle'.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.freedomtravel.se\/en\/2019\/03\/gejsrar-pa-island-strokkur-och-geysir\/\">Geysir and Strokkur geysers<\/a><\/strong> is located in a geothermal area in the Haukadalur valley. Geysir has given its name to the phenomenon of \u201dgeysers\u201d, but today it is Strokkur that can be seen spouting. Strokkur erupts approximately every 5-10 minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.freedomtravel.se\/en\/2019\/03\/thingvellir-nationalpark-pa-island\/\">\u00deingvellir National Park<\/a><\/strong>, or Tingvalla as you can sometimes see it written in Swedish, is located in a geological area where the North American and Eurasian continental plates are sliding apart. In addition to the dramatic nature, this is also the place where Iceland&#039;s parliament, the Althing, held its meetings between the years 930 and 1798.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-gyllene-cirkeln-med-minibuss\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Gyllene_cirkeln_med_minibuss\"><\/span>Golden Circle by minibus<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We were a group of about 10 people and did the tour by minibus. We started by driving the longest distance to the Faxi and Gullfoss waterfalls. This bus trip took about an hour, but you really don&#039;t get bored. This waterfall is located about 12 kilometers from Gullfoss, and is full of salmon. This impressive waterfall is located in the glacial river Hv\u00edt\u00e1 in southern Iceland. On average, about 109 cubic meters of water passes through per second, and during the summer about 130 cubic meters per second. Finally, the girl plucked up courage and asked the boy to cross the river to her. In 1907, an Englishman wanted to buy Gullfoss from T\u00f3mas T\u00f3masson on the Brattholt farm, but he refused. She fought to have the agreements annulled and enlisted the help of the lawyer Sveinn Bj\u00f6rnsson, who later became Iceland&#039;s first president.
