Almost all of Istria belongs to Croatia, and most of it is included in the Istrian County. A small part of the peninsula belongs to Slovenia, and two municipalities in northern Istria are in Italy. First of all, it's probably because Istria is full of small picturesque towns and villages with narrow alleys, beach walks and bobbing boats. We also like the abundance of campsites and the crystal clear water. Plus, this is the part of Croatia where we think the food is the best. The amphitheater in Pula is the sixth largest in the world and incredibly well preserved. It is ideally located for visiting the archipelago and the Brijuni National Park, where the President of Croatia has his summer residence. Of course, you can also stay in the town and enjoy fresh fish and delicious seafood. This is an idyllic little town, filled with narrow cobbled streets and beautiful Baroque and Renaissance houses. You can swim from the cliffs in the centre of town or climb to the top of St Eufemia's Cathedral for a breathtaking view of the whole city. It is fascinating to drive along the road towards the small village - suddenly the mountain and the village climbing to the top appear. The village is famous for truffles and the annual film festival that attracts thousands of people from all over the world. Once you reach the top, you can admire the view and enjoy a meal in a restaurant. Rovinj is perhaps the most postcard-perfect coastal town, while Motovun and Hum show a completely different side of Istria with hills, old stone houses and medieval settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What not to miss in Istria?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don&#039;t miss any of the historic coastal towns, such as Rovinj or Pore\u010d, and also try to get away from the coast and experience the interior. The Roman Arena in Pula is one of the region&#039;s major historical attractions, while Motovun and Hum offer smaller-scale settings. Istrian food, wine and olive oil are also an important part of the experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which city is best to live in Istria?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rovinj and Pore\u010d are good options if you want restaurants, swimming, people and plenty of excursion opportunities. Smaller Vrsar and Fa\u017eana are suitable for those who prefer a slightly quieter place. With a car or camper you can also stay in several different places and do a round trip, which is how we prefer to experience Istria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is Rovinj or Pore\u010d best?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rovinj is, in our opinion, the more charming of the two, with its dense old town rising on the peninsula and its small cobbled alleys. Pore\u010d is also historically interesting and also has the UNESCO-listed Euphrasian Basilica. Which one you prefer therefore depends on what you are looking for \u2013 and the distances are so short that it is easy to visit both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is Istria famous for?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Known for its historic coastal towns, the Adriatic Sea and its green, hilly hinterland, Istria also has a strong food culture, particularly associated with truffles, olive oil, wine, air-dried ham and seafood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How many days do you need in Istria?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a first trip we would recommend at least four or five days, but preferably a week or more. The distances are relatively short, but there are many places to discover. With a week you have time to combine coastal towns, swimming and a few excursions to the interior without having to stress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When is the best time to travel to Istria?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Summer is best if sun and swimming are the main purpose, but July and August also bring the most visitors and higher temperatures. May, June and September are very pleasant months for a round trip, with more comfortable temperatures for sightseeing and often still great opportunities for swimming. Spring and autumn are also good if the focus is more on food, culture and historic cities than on beach life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is Istria good for motorhomes?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, Istria is a very good area to discover by motorhome.
