The city itself is not very big, so much can be experienced on foot. Here, pleasure boats and excursion boats are moored side by side and along the water there are restaurants, cafes and various eateries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we were here, there was a real holiday atmosphere in the harbor, with boats coming and going and people settling down to eat by the water. Visit the M\u00fcritzeum<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the main attractions in Waren is <strong>M\u00fcritzeum<\/strong>, a large natural history museum and experience center focusing on the nature of the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We thought it was really nice. The museum is interactive and suitable for both adults and children. The M\u00fcritzeum describes it as Germany&#039;s largest aquarium for native freshwater species. During our visit, we actually had to try to estimate how many fish were swimming there. The interactive exhibitions tell the story of nature throughout the M\u00fcritz region, from forests and birdlife to wetlands and the history of the landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_Upplev_sjon_Muritz\"><\/span>5. Experience Lake M\u00fcritz<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#039;s hard to visit Waren without noticing the M\u00fcritz. The enormous lake dominates the entire city and is an important reason why people come here for vacation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">M\u00fcritz is Germany&#039;s largest lake, located entirely within the country&#039;s borders. Lake Constance is larger, but is shared between Germany, Switzerland and Austria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On and around the M\u00fcritz you can go boating, canoeing, swimming and cycling. Discover the M\u00fcritz National Park<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just east of Waren lies the M\u00fcritz National Park. The national park consists of forests, lakes, wetlands and marshes and is a great excursion destination for those who want to combine a visit to Waren with hiking, cycling and bird watching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here you can find white-tailed eagles and ospreys, among other things, and the area is also known for the large numbers of cranes that pass through during migration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are hiking and cycling trails through the national park, and Waren is a good starting point for exploring the area. After a forest fire in the summer of 2026, some parts were temporarily closed, but the national park administration announced in July that roads and trails had been reopened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Waren_an_der_Muritz_med_husbil\"><\/span>Waren an der M\u00fcritz by motorhome<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Waren and the area around M\u00fcritz are very suitable for a trip by motorhome. There are several campsites and parking lots in and around the city and the distances to the city center, the lake and nature are short.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we visited Waren, we parked within easy walking distance of the city center. From there we could leave the camper and explore the city and the M\u00fcritzeum on foot. That will give you time to walk through the city center and harbor, have lunch, and visit the M\u00fcritzeum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, if you also want to go boating on the M\u00fcritz, cycle or hike in the national park, it is easy to stay for two or three days \u2013 or considerably longer. Waren is not only a city to check off, but also a good base for a nature holiday among the lakes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Mer_att_se_i_narheten\"><\/span>More to see in the neighbourhood<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Waren can also be a good base for a few days with a campervan at the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte. From here you can make excursions around the lakes before continuing your journey through Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
