The island is 12.39 square kilometers and is therefore the largest island in Sk\u00e5ne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We started our day by taking the ferry out to the island. Firstly, we had heard that Iv\u00f6n is beautiful and that there are several campsites here. Apart from the fact that my mum has been to Iv\u00f6n many times, there is another connection to her here. The name is the Sk\u00e5ne version of Karin, and has been traced to the 17th century, when Sk\u00e5ne was part of Denmark. There are also very fossil-rich caves on the island, called Ugnsmunnarna. On the northern part of the island you will find the nature reserve Iv\u00f6 klack, with beech forest, rich biodiversity, viewpoints and an old lime and kaolin quarry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure The crossing takes about seven minutes and you can bring your car.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>What to do:<\/strong> Discover the Iv\u00f6 Klack nature reserve, the peculiar Ugnsmunnarna and the island&#039;s beautiful nature.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Good to think about:<\/strong> Please bring a packed lunch and comfortable walking shoes if you want to explore the island.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ferry times:<\/strong> Check the current timetable and any traffic disruptions with the Swedish Transport Administration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-backaskog-slott\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Backaskog_slott\"><\/span>B\u00e4ckaskog Castle<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the visit to Iv\u00f6n, we continued to B\u00e4ckaskog Castle, which was only about a five-minute drive from the ferry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From medieval monastery to royal summer palace<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">B\u00e4ckaskog Castle has a history that stretches back about 800 years. In the 13th century, Premonstratensian monks settled here, on the beautiful isthmus between Lake Iv\u00f6sj\u00f6n and Lake Oppmannasj\u00f6n. When Sk\u00e5ne became Swedish, B\u00e4ckaskog took on a new role as a residence for high-ranking military figures. One of those associated with the castle is Field Marshal Rutger von Ascheberg, who also played an important role in the Swedishization of Sk\u00e5ne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the 19th century, B\u00e4ckaskog became a royal summer resort. Crown Prince Oscar, who later became Oscar I, began using the castle, and then his son Karl XV took over. He enjoyed it so much that he returned for many summers, and during his time the beautiful castle park was also developed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, B\u00e4ckaskog is much more peaceful. There is a hotel, restaurant and conference facilities, and visitors can stroll through the park and enjoy the historic environment. Getting in here was a really pleasant experience. If we were impressed with the rooms in the castle, we were even more impressed with the park. The nature here is intensely green and the park is filled with different kinds of trees, some of which are huge. It was Charles XV's horse that had its own grave, and of course we wanted to see it! Equipped with a map and umbrellas, we set out to hunt in the rain. We can tell you that it <em>not<\/em> is simply to find the horse grave. The horse was the life horse of Charles XV, and when the king died, the horse was euthanised according to the traditions of the time.
