Food at The Boma

Shortly after we sat down, small snacks were served at the table, in the form of nuts, beans and pieces of crocodile meat. We tasted the crocodile meat, which was ok, although not a favourite.

You then go and get your own food from a large buffet. Here you will find lots of food in the form of grilled meat, stews, rice, salads, vegetables and vegetable dishes.

We tried both skewers and stew with the greater kudu (Africa's second largest antelope). Not bad!

A whole pig was also grilled on site.

There were also desserts in the form of cakes and pastries.

Try Mopane larvae at The Boma

Everyone who is brave is invited to taste and eat the mopane caterpillar, the larva of the moth. gonimbrasia belina. This caterpillar is an important and popular source of protein for many locals in Zimbabwe, and can be eaten either cooked as it is, or for example in a stew.

If you eat a mopane caterpillar at The Boma, you get a diploma, and Alexandra was the first to try it.

Robin didn't want to be worse, and he also went for a caterpillar tasting.

There were diplomas for both Robin and Alexandra!

What about us? Yes, Peter tested. Quite ok to try according to him, but after one caterpillar he was satisfied, so to speak ... What about me (Helena)? Well, I felt "not really hungry" for caterpillar at that time ... I was happy to act as a photographer!

Activities: Face painting, braiding and fortune telling

In addition to eating caterpillars, a lot of other activities are organised during an evening at The Boma. Some went around offering face painting or hair braiding. Both Robin and Alexandra got really nice decorations on their faces!

One man also told me that you could come to him if you wanted to tell your fortune. We never did this, but we met some German guys who tried it. They learnt that one of them would become very rich in the future...!

Dance and drum show

What above all happening at The Boma is a show with dance and drums. Musicians and dancers entertain in the middle of the restaurant, and it's really colourful, lively and rhythmic!
