Moose presents
On this page you'll find lots of gifts for anyone who loves moose. Here you'll find moose coasters, moose trivets, moose keyrings and moose wine corks. All moose gifts are made from silicone, which is a durable, long-lasting and environmentally friendly material.
Moose products are perfect gifts for anyone who loves animals and nature. Since the trivets and coasters are made of silicone, they stay still and don't rattle, which means they also fit very well in a caravan or motorhome.
The moose gifts can be sent by post as they don't weigh much and don't take up too much space. The moose gifts are also perfect for travelling abroad as a little souvenir from Sweden.
Want to know more about moose?
The moose is often called the king of the forest and is almost a symbol of Sweden. Although moose are found in more countries in North America, northern Europe and northern Asia, Sweden is actually the most moose-dense country in the world. Here are some interesting facts about moose. You can also read more about moose in our article with facts about moose.
There are two species of elk - European elk (Alces alces) and American elk (Alces americanus).
The elk is a 'young' species - the oldest fossils of 'Alces' are 2 million years old and the oldest fossils of 'Alces alces' are 100,000 years old.
Moose have different names in English - in North America they are called 'moose' and in the UK they are called 'elk'.
The moose's range has shrunk - Moose used to spread over a larger part of the world, but human activity has shrunk their range.
Moose live alone - For most of their lives, moose live alone. In autumn they mate and in winter they sometimes gather in small groups.
Moose cows are pregnant for 8 months - Moose go into heat at the end of September and calves are usually born in May or June.
Moose grow fast - A moose calf weighs between 8-15kg when it is born and gains about 1.5kg per day in the first few months.
Moose are big eaters - During the summer, moose can eat up to 35kg per day and during the winter they may eat 15kg per day.
Green is good - Moose eat leaves, shoots and small twigs. In autumn it can be blueberry bushes and in winter even pine bark.
The heaviest bull moose can weigh 800kg - In Sweden, cow moose weigh between 270-360kg and bulls between 380-540kg, but sometimes up to 800kg.
There is a big difference between bull moose and cow moose - the bulls have horns and are significantly larger than the females (around 20 per cent larger).
The horns can weigh over 18kg - The horns develop in males during the first year of life. They are largest between 6 and 12 years of age.
Moose lose their horns - Every year, in winter, moose lose their horns. They grow back in spring, about 2 cm per day.
There are two types of elk horns - there are "pole or branch horns" (cervine horns) and shovel horns (palmate horns).
The moose trophy is scored - the hunters measure the bar circumference of the horn, the spread, the vertical length of the horn, the width of the blade, the length of the spines and the number of spines.
Many tags = high status - The more tags the horn crown has, the higher the status of the trophy. A record moose was a 32-tagger.
White moose exist, but are rare - It is estimated that there are around 20-100 white moose in Sweden. Their whiteness is usually due to 'leucism'.
Moose are fast - Over a short distance, a moose can run at 60 km/h. On long distances, they can run at 30 km/h.
Moose are good swimmers - Moose like to swim around lakes instead of walking around. At least two moose have swum from Sweden to Denmark.
Moose can become aggressive - Most moose are calm, but if they get scared they can become angry, especially if a cow moose is worried about her calf.
Moose have enemies in the animal world - It is mainly young, sick and old moose that need to worry. For them, a pack of wolves or a bear may pose a threat.
Man is the moose's greatest enemy - The greatest enemy of the moose is man. Moose hunting kills many moose, and moose can also be killed in road accidents.
Moose can live up to 25 years - A moose can live to around 25, but many die at a younger age due to moose hunting or road accidents.
Sweden is the most densely populated country - There are around 300,000 to 350,000 moose in our country, making Sweden the most densely populated country in the world.
There are plenty of moose parks - If you want to be sure to see a moose up close, you can go to a moose park.
