Here's a to-do list for the holidays, i.e. a list to go through before you are travelling. Is it necessary? Not necessarily, but it can be useful to make sure you don't miss anything. Plus, it's easier to relax on holiday when you know that 'you're in control at home'.

Holiday to-do list

Are you sure you have everything under control at home when you go on holiday? Here's a holiday to-do list to tick off. This list is not primarily about the journey itself, but perhaps about what you leave behind at home. If you know that your house or apartment is in good shape, it's easier to relax on holiday!

  • Cancel or change the address of the morning paper - Alternatively, you can ask a neighbour/friend to collect the paper.
  • Cancelling or changing the address of your mail - Alternatively, you can ask a neighbour/friend to collect the mail.
  • Bis a blue card for health care when travelling within the EU. - You can order the card on the Försäkringskassan website to travelling abroad.
  • Check that you have valid insurance - Check your policy or contact your insurance company.
  • Pay bills in advance or set up a direct debit. - If you're going to be away for a long time, it's important to pay your bills in advance, or be able to pay them by direct debit or online invoice. If you are unsure about any company - give them a call!
  • Write down and take with you the blocking number for your credit cards. - If the card is stolen, it is important to be able to block it as soon as possible.
  • 'Burglar-proofing' with neighbours - What this point means can vary, but it is primarily about keeping in touch with neighbours and helping to look after each other's homes.

Do you have more tips?

Personally, we always check with our neighbours when we go away. Some of the closest neighbours have keys to our house and we usually ask them to pick up the mail and to check the situation a few times. When we are away for a long time, we also let someone stay here, either one of Peter's sons or someone we rent to. It feels pretty good to have someone looking after your home! Do you have any other tips on what to think about before travelling?
