New Year's Eve on the beach in Langkawi

Yesterday we celebrated New Year's Eve in Langkawi, at a place by the beach called Oasis. For 100 ringgit (about 200 SEK) per person we got a buffet, fire, lanterns and fireworks. The nicest surprise was that Linda, Ludvig and their children, from Mary af Rövarhamn, came to join us, along with another Swedish family they know who are staying at a nearby hotel.

Mary of Rövarhamn

We have been following the blog Mary of Rövarhamn long. The family makes a fantastic round-the-world trip by sailboat that lasts for several years. Truly fascinating and inspiring! When we realised that they would be on the Langkawi while we wanted to meet, of course. There was a short meeting a few days ago, and now we had the opportunity to celebrate New Year's Eve together. Very fun!

New Year's Eve in Langkawi

It was a very nice New Year's Eve in Langkawi, at a long table by the beach. Restaurant Oasis set up a relatively simple, but good buffet and we ate, drank and talked. Linda and Ludvig had lots of exciting stories to tell from all corners of the world, not least from small South Sea islands, which are almost never visited by tourists.

We heard about shells so big the children could crawl inside them, and about encounters with orangutans - which the children said were commonplace compared to such exotic experiences as meeting a Swede.

Lanterns and drinks in the night

At 12 o'clock, lanterns were sent to the sky, and then the two families with children headed home. We continued to a place called Sugar, which has the same owners as our hotel. The people who work here are very nice and insisted on offering drinks, so it was a nice and late evening ...
