Tips for things to see and do in a big city

So what can you see and do when visiting a big city? It depends on your taste, but here are some of the things we try to include:

  • See some 'landmarks' in the form of important historical buildings
  • Take a guided tour
  • Visit selected museums
  • Eating traditional food
  • Spend an evening in a nice bar - preferably a rooftop bar.

In some cities, it can also be nice to take a boat trip. In addition, you can of course often enjoy things like coffee, shopping, visiting markets or perhaps hanging out in a nightclub or casino, although you can also find sites like Faster casino online. Here you will find our affordable city tips:

1. St Petersburg, Russia

St. Petersburg is a city that we have wanted to visit for a long time, but so far it hasn't happened. Right now is also not the right time to go as the advisory to many countries in the world, including Russia, remains in place, but in the future we definitely want to visit this historically interesting city. Two places on the list here are the Winter Palace and the Church of the Resurrection.

2. Sofia, Bulgaria

We visited Bulgaria's capital Sofia earlier this autumn, and this city surprised us positively in several ways. There is a lot of history and beautiful churches, but also modern and cool restaurants and bars. In our post about things to to do in Sofia you'll find all our top tips. If you can, we recommend combining your visit to the city with a visit to the Black Sea, where you can soak up the sun, swim and have a great holiday.

3. Warsaw, Poland

Poland's capital Warsaw is another interesting and affordable capital city. Here you can experience everything from the renovated, beautiful Old Town to grand communist-era buildings. You can also visit interesting museums, stroll through lovely parks and enjoy traditional Polish food. You can find all our top tips in our report on things to see and do in Poland. what to do in Warsaw.

4. Bucharest, Romania

Romania is a white spot on our map and it's not really the capital that attracts us, but rather places like Transylvania. But if you are travelling to Romania, it is of course interesting to visit the capital in connection with this. In Bucharest you can check out the magnificent Palace of Parliament and the old city centre with the Stavropoleos church from 1724. You can also sample Romanian cuisine, try out the nightlife or perhaps find some fun shopping.

5th Belgrade, Serbia

We've been on the verge of visiting Serbia's capital Belgrade several times, but we've yet to go. Belgrade is sometimes described as "the new Berlin", but we would like to visit the city with open eyes, without comparing it to other cities. We understand that there are interesting restaurants and bars here, as well as historical sights such as forts and museums.
