Cruise in Croatia - with Katarina Line

Although we have travelled many times in the country, this was the first time we experienced a cruise in Croatia. We cruised with the shipping company Katarina Line and our cruise both started and ended in Split.

Katarina Line - different ships, classes, routes and themes

Katarina Line is a Croatian shipping company that has different ships in different classes along different routes and with different themes. You can choose whether you want to cruise with a budget ship (Traditional), some kind of middle class (Premium) or a little more luxurious (Deluxe).

Cruises can start and end in different resorts (Opatija, Dubrovnik or Split) and have different stops along the way. In addition, there are cruises with different themes, such as cycling, yoga, naturist or gourmet.

We cruised with the very highest class (Deluxe Superior), but before departure we had the opportunity to look into some ships of medium class. There the cabins are slightly smaller than the one we had, but still cosy and nice.

We travelled with Futura

What about our cruise in Croatia? We cruised with the ship Futura, which belongs to the Deluxe Superior class. A fantastic luxurious and fine ship!

The ship Futura (Deluxe Superior)

We liked all with this ship. It's big and luxurious, yet feels personal and intimate. There is a maximum of 36 passengers, which gives you the chance to get to know the other people on board and perhaps make lifelong friends from another part of the world. The ship also offers relaxed luxury.

The cabins are super nice with bright interior, work table, windows facing the sea and a nice bathroom.

Meals on board

When you cruise with Katarina Line, various meals are included in the ship's restaurant. Breakfast is almost always included and then it can vary from day to day whether lunch and / or dinner are included - it depends on the programme and whether you are on board or ashore at a nice destination.

breakfast

Breakfast on board our cruise in Croatia was very Good. The buffet included everything from fresh bread and delicious cold cuts to pastries, yoghurt and some hot dishes. If you wanted eggs, you could just order what you wanted - fried eggs, omelettes or scrambled eggs.

Lunch and dinner

Lunch and dinner were also very high class. Most of the time we were served three-course meals at a seated table. One of the lunches was a buffet instead. One of the dinners was Captain's Dinner, when you dress up a little and when a total of four dishes were served.

Starters included dumplings, squid salad and dishes with courgettes or aubergines.

Main courses included pork, seabass or lamb. One of the party was vegetarian and she was given creative vegetarian options.

The desserts were ... amazing! We are not really dessert freaks, but here it was hard to resist ... Soooo good!

Cruise in Croatia - sun and sea on board

During a typical day on a cruise in Croatia - at least with Katarina Line - a "bathing stop" is included. Then you stop in a cosy bay, where you can swim, swim or maybe paddle-board. In April, the water temperature was "refreshing" and we chose to enjoy the lovely weather from the deck, but many of our fellow travellers swam!

Even though we didn't swim, we didn't have to. It was great to enjoy the sun in the sunbeds!

We also took the opportunity to have a lovely time in the hot jacuzzi one day. This is a luxury that is only available on board the highest class of Katarina Line ships.

Stops along the way - islands and towns in the Croatian archipelago

When you're on a cruise with Katarina Line, you make stops every day on different islands and in different cities in the Croatian archipelago. This sometimes includes a guided tour (depending on the cruise you booked) and then you can look around on your own. The most luxurious category also includes a wine tasting.

The ships look mighty as they enter harbour in the small charming Croatian towns.

When going back to the ship, you have to be prepared to walk through several ships. The harbours are small and often the ships have to anchor next to each other, so you have to walk through ship after ship to get to your own...!

Among other things, we went ashore at Korčula, Hvar and Brač. Other cruises have other stops, such as Krk, Zadar, Makarska, Dubrovnik, Mljet, Cres, Lošinj and so on. Below you can see a film from our visit to Brač:

End of our cruise in Croatia

Our cruise in Croatia was an amazing experience. It is actually difficult to put it into words. Although we have travelled a lot in Croatia before, this was special. The memories we take with us include the beautiful sunsets and the new great friends we made in the group.

Cruise in Croatia - back in Split

Our cruise went from Split to Split, which is convenient both if you arrive by plane and if you arrive by car or motorhome. Split is also a fantastic city. You can find our tips for Split here!
