Finally on a trip abroad

It has been surprisingly nice and fun to experience Sweden this year. But of course we have longed to visit interesting and exciting destinations abroad. On Monday it was finally time. We set off on a press trip to the Black Sea in Bulgaria!

We travelled from Stockholm together with our blog colleague and friend Christian from Food and travel blog. The flight took place with LOT Polish Airlines from Arlanda to Warsaw, and from there to the Bulgarian capital Sofia.

I Sofia we met our Norwegian fellow travellers, Hannah and Jörgen, who run the Instagram account @hannahlates. Then we continued with another flight, to Varna on the Black Sea.

Long journey? It didn't feel that long, but when the flights get going properly there will be direct flights to the Black Sea, so the journey will be smoother!

A great team

We really couldn't have been more lucky with our travelling companions! Christian is a good friend from before, and Hannah and Jörgen turned out to be fantastic young people! They have both worked and travelled in many countries, have a great attitude towards life and are always ready to laugh.

And you know a funny coincidence - Hannah speaks Icelandic like me (Helena)! In the picture below you can see the whole gang at an awesome beach bar at Sunny Beach.

Cities, history, beaches, food and wine

We have only spent a few days in Bulgaria, but it already feels like we have had time to see and experience a lot. Among other things, we have visited the beautiful Unesco city of Nesebar and the country's third largest city, Varna.

Everywhere there are beautiful old churches and historical remains such as old Roman baths. Not to mention the very special cave monastery that we saw yesterday! In addition, we have visited interesting museums and amazingly beautiful parks ...

We have also had the opportunity to experience the incredibly beautiful sandy beaches here, such as Sunny Beach. And of course we have eaten traditional Bulgarian food (chopska salad, meat and fish from the Black Sea among others) and tried really good Bulgarian wines! The people we meet are very nice and it feels really positive and fun to travel around here. We have actually already talked about travelling back to see things that we don't have time for on this trip.

We are glad that we decided to (almost) not blog while travelling, because there is really no time for that. Also, my computer (or probably the battery) has given up, so I'm currently blogging from my mobile phone. But I really look forward to telling you more about Bulgaria when we get home. And for now: feel free to follow me on Instagram, at @freedomtravelnews! Happy Friday!
