Charter traffic at Jönköping Airport is up and running again

On 5 August, a flight landed at Jönköping Airport with charter passengers from Germany. It is the first plane with passengers in almost a year and a half for the airport. An arrival that is a great joy for both Jönköping Airport and the county's tourism industry. The next plane lands already this week and the airport expects 6-8 flights per year in the future. When it comes to departing charter flights from Jönköping the first departures are in October, to Gran Canaria and Tenerife.

SAS opens new routes to the Canary Islands

SAS is now opening direct flights to Tenerife from Stockholm and to Gran Canaria from Gothenburg. The new routes start on 30 October. SAS offers an extensive programme to the Canary Islands during winter 21/22 with 6 routes and 17 departures per week, increasing to 30 departures per week during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Although many countries are now easing their entry restrictions, most countries still require various types of travel and test certificates and it is important to be well prepared before arriving at the airport. To make it easier for travellers, SAS has developed a new digital platform, SAS Travel Ready Center.

Half the EU population is fully vaccinated

Half of the EU population has received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine and is therefore fully immunised, according to an estimate by AFP news agency. This is reported by several media outlets. This means that almost 224 million people in the 27 EU Member States have received two shots of the vaccine. The vaccination league is topped by Spain, where almost 60 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated. In Sweden, just over 54% have received two shots. Despite the fact that so many people are fully vaccinated, the delta variant is increasing in many places.

Telia's analysis of Swedish travel in July shows an increase compared to last year, but that there is still some way to go to pre-pandemic levels. Some journeys and destinations that have increased significantly:

  • Air travel - Travel to Sigtuna (Arlanda) has increased by 51 % compared to 2020, but it is still far from pre-pandemic levels (-34 %).
  • Muskö - In the Stockholm area, Muskö has become popular with increases in the number of trips both compared to 2020 (+31%) and to 2019 (+51%).
  • Öckerö - In Region Västra Götaland, Öckerö has become popular (+27%) but levels are still lower than in 2019 (-13%).
  • Simrishamn - In Skåne, trips to Simrishamn have increased by 7 % since 2020 and are almost at 2019 levels (-2 %).

Activity boom at SkiStar: 85,000 visitors this summer

The holiday weeks have been full of activity at SkiStar's destinations in Scandinavia. A very high demand for an active summer holiday in the mountains, several new products from SkiStar Sports & Adventures, combined with beautiful weather, has resulted in an increase in the number of guests of more than 60 percent compared with the previous year: in Trysil, Åre and Sälen alone, more than 85,000 visitors have tried trail biking, downhill or lift-assisted hiking this summer. SkiStar's guest surveys also show that 1 in 4 have never before visited the mountains in the summer.

Reflection of the week

The continued popularity of Sweden as a holiday destination is really noticeable and we suspect that the new craze for the mountains and other Swedish destinations will continue for some time to come, even though foreign travel will probably also increase.
