Booking transport to a destination
Booking transport to a destination, such as Linköping or Berlin, is relatively easy if you know from the start which mode of transport is best. That is, if you already fat that flight is the best choice, or train, well then just go to a flight or train booking site and book. Or by the way, finding train tickets outside Sweden is not always easy either, even if you know you want to go by train.
If you don't know which mode of transport is best - train, bus, plane or ferry - what do you do? One way is to use Omio.se, where you can search for a start and end destination and get different options. We have now tested it!
Test of the Omio travel booking platform
The travel booking platform Omio works to find and book trains, buses, flights and ferries in Sweden, Europe, USA and Canada. We are currently in Asia and therefore decided to do a fictitious test, as if we were at home in Sweden and wanted to book a trip within Europe. We chose to test book Stockholm - Hamburg on 1 May 2023. The results showed us three possible modes of travel, with a range of options within each:
- Trains: Several options. The cheapest option was Snälltåget - just over 13 hours' journey, 540 SEK.
- Bus: Several options. The cheapest option was Flixbuss - just over 15 hours of travelling, 582 SEK.
- Flight: Several options. The fastest and second cheapest option was Eurowings - just over 1.5 hours' journey, 1384 SEK.
If you wish, you can use different filters when searching (e.g. fastest, lowest price or departure time), and once you have chosen your mode of transport, you can proceed to booking and payment. After the search, you can also, if you wish, find accommodation options at the destination via Booking.com, a partner of Omio.
What did we like about using Omio?
We must say that the search was smooth and it was easy to compare the different possible options. We will definitely use this service in the future, especially if we don't know which mode of transport is the best or if we are keen to travel by train in Europe, which can sometimes be a bit tricky to find and book. Omio also has a page specifically about train journeys in Sweden and Europe.
We tested the service via the company's website, but there's also an app, which may be more convenient if you're travelling and want to search and book on your phone.

Always check on their own . Usually works very well without going through intermediaries. Especially if something unforeseen happens, it is then quite easy to get compensation via insurance and the respective company. Also when it comes to rebooking. Perhaps it also works via Omio, but I have the experience that there is no company that does anything free of charge - on the other hand, it is certainly helpful.
