rest areas in Sweden

Rest areas in Sweden vary in appearance, but there are usually toilets, information boards, seating with tables and rubbish bins. At some rest areas, it is also possible to empty the motorhome toilet.

The purpose of a rest area is to allow you to stop and rest and then continue driving safely and securely. You are allowed to stay at a rest area for a maximum of one day, and if you want to stay longer than that, you must have special authorisation.

Rest area map

For several years, we have had great use of the rest area map, where the country's rest areas are marked, and where you can see which ones have emptying facilities for motorhomes. This year we received the map in our mailbox together with the Caravan Club's member magazine, but in previous years we have ordered it directly from the Swedish Transport Administration.

Update: The rest area map no longer exists as a physical publication. You can read about rest areas in Sweden at Transport Agency website.
