Best countries in 2020 according to Lonely Planet

Last week, Lonely Planet launched its annual 'Best in Travel'. When it comes to 'best countries' to visit as a travel destination, Bhutan comes out on top, partly because of its well-preserved nature and sustainable lifestyle. In fact, Bhutan is the only country in the world that absorbs more carbon dioxide than it emits. Here is the full list:

Best cities of 2020 according to Lonely Planet

When it comes to cities, Austria's Salzburg takes the top spot on Lonely Planet's list. It cites the 100th anniversary of the Salzburg Festival and mentions opera, classical music and theatre. We agree that Salzburg is a great city! Here is the list of cities:

Swedish technology makes Viking Glory climate smart

Viking Line is building the vessel Viking Glory, which according to a press release will be one of the world's most climate-smart vessels. The vessel is currently being built in Xiamen, China, and is equipped with several technical innovations to reduce emissions and climate impact. Viking Glory is being equipped with ABB's Azipod rudder propeller system, which saves time and energy when manoeuvring. The vessel is also equipped with an energy recovery system from Swedish Climeon, which converts the waste heat from the engines into electricity.

LOT starts flying to Sri Lanka

From 3 November, you will be able to fly from Stockholm to Colombo in the United States. Sri Lanka, via Warsaw, with LOT Polish Airlines. The flights, Boeing 787 and 789 Dreamliners, will operate three times a week. The Sri Lankan Embassy advises that visas are free until 31 January, but to beware of private companies charging for visas. You can apply for a visa at eta.gov.lk.

Brexit cools Swedes' interest in the UK

There have been many rumours about Brexit and much still seems unclear. Ticket has commissioned a Sifo survey that shows how Brexit would affect Swedes' interest in travelling to the UK. 24% of Swedes say that Brexit would negatively affect their interest in travelling to the UK. The majority state that their interest would remain unchanged if the country left the EU, while only 3 per cent would have an increased interest.
