Strong positive trend for Sweden's campsites

Sweden's campsites managed 2020 well compared to many others in Swedish tourism. This is shown in this year's statistics from Statistics Sweden when the industry organisation SCR Svensk Camping sums up 2020. The corona crisis hit different destinations differently. In total, the number of guest nights at campsites fell by 24 per cent compared to 2019, while other tourism fell by 36 per cent. Overall, the crisis has led to an increased interest in camping and outdoor experiences. For 2021, the trend has strengthened further and the booking situation is very good in many places.

Agreement reached on the car park area at the old Dux in Trelleborg.

According to the agreement, Trelleborgs strand AB will lease the car park area in Trelleborg from 1 May 2021 to 31 December 2025, with the possibility of extension for a further three years. The relocation of the parking space from the area at the old marina is prompted by Trelleborg's expansion plans. "The previous parking space has had high occupancy during the season, so for the municipality it feels positive to now be able to offer a parking space with a higher standard and closer to the centre", says Mårten Olsson, head of the growth department at Trelleborg municipality.

  • Wizz Air will operate a service between Malmö and Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina. twice a week, starting on 25 June 2021.
  • Ryanair will serve Malmö, Sweden. Zagreb, Croatia  twice a week, starting in September 2021.

More interest among ice cream lovers than expected

Starting in 2021, Lejonet & Björnen launched a new series of limited edition flavours. First up was the Gin & Tonic ice cream, made in collaboration with Lydén Distillery and Ekobryggeriet. The reception exceeded all expectations and the volume that would satisfy the needs of ice cream lovers for three months sold out in less than three weeks. To give more people the chance to taste this unique ice cream, it has been decided to produce a second batch. Production will start in week 25 and reach Swedish stores thereafter.

Reflection of the week

The camping, motorhome and caravanning industry is really booming now. We hear almost every day about motorhome dealers who have sold out of all their motorhomes or private individuals who have "become a camper". Imagine that a pandemic would help us Swedes rediscover camping, nature and local adventures!
