Sweden's amusement parks open, SJ launches a new train holiday card and the camping industry experiences record numbers. That's some of the travel news this Monday. Because you know we do travel news on Mondays (except when we're travelling too intensively), right?

Sweden's amusement parks open

The government has announced the relaxation of restrictions on amusement park rides from 1 June, with a maximum of one guest per 20 square metres. This was accompanied by a series of press releases from amusement parks announcing the opening.

  • Gröna Lund opens it 2 June with the new Monster roller coaster, new food experiences and new New York-inspired environments.
  • Furuvik opened on 13 May, and the entire carnival area on 1 June. New this year is a new adventure course with challenges for the whole family.
  • Skara sommarland opens on 5 June and welcomes guests to swim, ride and enjoy summer days.
  • Teddy's world at Kolmården opens on 1 June with rides, games and Wildfire, the wooden roller coaster.
  • Parken Zoo opened on 13 May, with adaptations for corona-safe visits.

SJ launches new train traveller card for summer 2021

A new train excursion card from SJ makes it easier to take a climate-smart holiday and discover more of Sweden this summer. The Tågluffarkort applies to unlimited travel for 7, 15 or 30 days and is valid from 14 June to 15 August. The card is personal and is valid for travelling in 2nd class on day trains and in 2nd class seating on night trains. SJ's Tågluffarkort Sverige can be purchased on sj.se in SJ's app under the Commuter Tickets tab, at SJ Lounge, SJ Customer Service and SJ's retailers.

TUI's first flight to the Mediterranean has taken off

On 10 May, TUI's first flight of the year left for the Mediterranean, and Cyprus. The Eastern Mediterranean, with the Greek islands and Cyprus, are the most popular destinations for Swedes this summer.Travelling is currently carried out with negative PCR tests. From the end of June, travellers are expected to be able to travel with the new EU vaccine certificate. However, countries may welcome vaccinated travellers, without being tested, earlier than that.

Record figures for camping and First Camp

Ahead of the camping summer 2021, the booking situation shows record figures. The first major camping weekend of the year, Easter, was the best ever for First Camp and accommodation turnover increased by 17 per cent compared to Easter 2019, which was a record Easter and before the pandemic. The booking situation for July is currently about 10 per cent better than at the same time in 2019. The top 5 list of the most booked First Camp destinations right now for summer 2021:

Viking Line launches cruises to Österlen this summer

This summer, Viking Line is offering Österlen cruises from Stockholm for the first time. Due to the current Danish pandemic restrictions, the shipping company is replacing Bornholm with Österlen on two of its previously planned Baltic Sea cruises. The cruises that combine the destinations Ystad and Visby will depart on 6 and 20 June, with tickets released today, 14 May 2021.

SAS to launch a new route between Luleå and London in December

SAS is establishing a new route between London and Luleå During the 2021/2022 winter season. December 2021 marks the premiere of the regular direct route between Heathrow in London and Luleå Airport with departures on Fridays and Mondays until March.

Reflection of the week

There is more and more optimism when it comes to travel and holidays, which is great. Of course, we have to be careful for a while longer, but if we can manage it, it should be a nice summer!
