Ryanair launches direct route to Cologne from Arlanda Airport

Ryanair continues its expansion in Sweden and at Stockholm Arlanda Airport and adds another European route just in time for spring, to Cologne, Germany's fourth largest city. Starting on 27 March 2022, Ryanair will fly to Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN) twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays. Ryanair will not be alone in offering a direct connection from Arlanda, as the German low-cost carrier Eurowings will restart its service to Cologne in the spring.

Kolmården to close dolphinarium - focus on endangered species

In a situation where biodiversity is threatened worldwide, Kolmården has made a strategic decision to focus increasingly on the conservation of endangered species. As part of this work, we will therefore eventually close the dolphinarium. Now the important work of finding new homes for the dolphins begins, a process that may take several years. Until then, the dolphinarium will remain open as usual.

New sustainable ferries on TT-Line - Green Ship Nils Holgersson delivered

TT-Line, the Baltic Sea ferry line, is the first shipping company in the southern Baltic Sea to focus entirely on sustainability - from the engine room to catering. Now it's time - the first of two of a whole new generation of ferries called Green-Ships has been delivered to the Travemünde company. The ship, which sails under the German flag, uses environmentally friendly liquefied natural gas (LNG) and is equipped with many other eco-friendly solutions such as LED lighting, optimised hull for low fuel consumption and sustainable products in the shop.

Rising fuel costs lead to fuel surcharges at Viking Line

Due to sharply rising fuel costs, Viking Line is forced to charge its travellers a surcharge. The fuel surcharge is charged for new bookings made from 10 March with departure 10 March - 31 August 2022. The price for trips booked before 10 March without a fuel surcharge is not affected, provided that no changes are made to the booking. The supplement for a single journey is between SEK 19 and 29 and the supplement for a round trip cruise is between SEK 38 and 58, depending on the destination.

Viking Line

Acamp buys the app "Ställplatser"

The Swedish company Acamp buys the Ställplatser app and now has over 100,000 users in the Nordic region. This is reported by DiDigital, among others. Acamp was launched in 2021 and describes itself as a kind of "Airbnb for campers". The site brings together adverts where you can book a pitch or park your motorhome with private individuals.

World premiere of the new Volkswagen ID. Buzz

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and Volkswagen Passenger Cars now present the world novelty "Volkswagen ID. BUZZ". ID. Buzz takes its cue from one of the most iconic car models in history - the T1 Folkabus - updated for a new electric era. The minibus is also the first in its class to come with a climate-neutral footprint. This includes a high proportion of recycled materials and a completely leather-free interior.

Reflection of the week

A lot of the big companies' news focuses on sustainability, and it's great that we've finally got there. Now it's just a matter of not destroying the world, so we still have a world to protect.
