Stockholm is a beautiful city with plenty of things to do for visitors - and an exceptional international reputation. Stockholm is known for its iconic sights such as the City Hall and the Royal Palace.

But behind the reputation of being an elegant and historic capital and away from the winding cobbled streets of the Old Town, there are plenty of unusual activities that many have forgotten. Here are five quirky activities you can do with your friends in Stockholm.

1. order a cocktail at ICEBAR

ICEBAR is a world-famous bar that is literally made of ice. The bar is kept at -7 degrees Celsius to preserve the intricately carved ice sculptures and make it surrounded by walls of ice. As the bar is indoors, it is open all year round, regardless of the season.

The bar is located in the cool Nordic C Hotel, right next to the central station, and as a visitor you pay a one-off fee that includes a cocktail and a warm jacket - all you need to bring is the sense of adventure.

2. Look at the art gallery in metro stations

Stockholm is home to one of the most incredible public art installations in the world. Visitors often overlook it, but Stockholm's metro station offers amazing art installations.

Almost all metro stations in this city are adorned with vibrant sculptures, paintings and mosaics. The most photographed stations in this context are usually: Solna Centre, Skarpnäck Station, and School of Engineering.

3. Stay in an airport hotel

Have you arrived late at Arlanda Airport or have an early departure? Why not stay at a unique airport hotel. Jumbo Stay is one of the world's most famous hotels and one of the few hotels in the world where you can stay overnight. The hotel was formerly a Boeing 747 converted into a 33-room accommodation facility - one of which is located in the pilot's cockpit.

4. Visit one of Sweden's few casinos

Casino Cosmopol is a state-owned land-based casino. of a total of three in Sweden. Located on Kungsgatan 65 in the centre of Stockholm, the casino has 36 gaming tables, 399 slot machines, a restaurant, bars and entertainment. It is the ultimate place for an eventful Friday or Saturday night.

Enjoy the Stockholm City Library
