Prachovské skály
Prachovské skály is one of several areas in the north of the Czech Republic that offer amazing rock formations. This particular area is located in Bohemian Paradise, which is a Unesco Geopark. We took the campervan here, and went hiking.

You'll find Prachovské skály about seven miles north-east of the capital. Prague, in the north of the Czech Republic.
Visiting Prachovské skály
Prachovské skály is an area that attracts a lot of tourists, and you have to pay for both parking and entrance to the area, but it's definitely worth it! There is also a food service and ice cream parlour at the entrance.

However, once you pass through the entrance, there are no more restaurants or shops. So make sure you pack water or other drinks, and possibly snacks or a packed lunch. When we were here it was really hot, and a lot of water was used!

Hiking among amazing rock formations
After the first hill up, you are greeted by an absolutely magical landscape, filled with fabulous sandstone rock formations.

The formations rise like tall cigars from the ground, and the landscape looks almost unreal.

You can walk around the formations and look up at them.

Sometimes you can pass between them, on extremely narrow paths or stairs.

There are also several viewpoints, where you can look out over large areas filled with the special rocks.

There are also information boards at the sites, where you can find both the names of the different rocks and interesting information about them. The texts are in both Czech and English.

If you look closely at the bidle below, you can see tiny, tiny people passing by down there.

It's hard to stop taking photos because the area is so special. We took lots of pictures and films, and had to eliminate many to keep the story short. In other words, there is a lot to see!

Rock climbing in Prachovské skály
Some people are not content with walking in Prachovské skály. Climbing the high cliffs is also popular! From various vantage points in the area, we could watch a long line of climbers.

Personally, we were happy just strolling around, and we highly recommend this area! You can spend anything from a few hours to a full day here.

Where can you camp with a motorhome or caravan?
We stayed at Autocamp Jinolice. This campsite is perfectly located for visiting Prachovské skály, and we liked this place. This is a relatively simple, but nice and green campsite, located by a lake.
We stood with the motorhome right next to the lake, and it felt really luxurious. Of course there was a dip in the heat! At the campsite there is also a simpler restaurant, and here the atmosphere was high on Saturday night!

More to see and do in the neighbourhood
From Prachovské Skaly it is not far to Hrubá Skála and Mala Skála, both of which offer rock formations. In addition, you can check out the cool Trosky Castle. In the neighbourhood you can also visit Crystal Valley, where you'll find plenty of glass artists, but also breweries and nature. Other exciting destinations include Czech Republic's highest mountain Sněžka and tree-top railway in Krkonoše.
