Increased interest in rail travel to Germany

According to the German Tourist Board, the share of Swedish travellers to the Germany by train increased from 1% (2020) to 8% (2021). This year, the share is also expected to rise. A clear indicator of this is that many of Snälltåget's departures on the Stockholm - Berlin route (with several stops along the way) are already fully booked this summer. Göta Canal breaks world record for birthday coffee.

Göta Canal is celebrating its 200th anniversary with a 19-mile-long birthday party on 9-10 July. During these days, the canal will be visited by thousands of visitors who will enjoy the royal couple's welcome and performances by several famous artists. The world's longest birthday coffee consists of all the cafés along the canal selling their version of the "canal bun". On Canal Day, 10 July, the official opening of the 200th anniversary of the lake village.

The bridge to Entrance South at Skuleskogen National Park is now ready to be put into service, at the same time as the national park bus starts running. Entry to the national park can now be done in an environmentally friendly way, with the free bus to Entrance West and Entrance South, and an electric minibus to Entrance North. More Snälltåget departures to Jämtland this summer

Last week, the first night train of the season started running from Malmö to Jämtlandsfjällen. The train departs from Malmö via Lund, Hässleholm, Alvesta, Nässjö, Linköping, Norrköping, Stockholm and Uppsala. Snälltåget starts the season earlier this year and runs night train services twice a week until 2 October. "We see a greatly increased interest in taking the train to the mountains this summer and have increased both the number of departures and seats on the trains," says Marco Andersson, Sales Manager for Snälltåget.

Sweden podcast launched

Poddhuset, which already runs Trygghetspodden, is now launching Sverigepodden.
It is a feel-good podcast about travel destinations, culture, history, sports and business. Sverigepodden is made according to Poddhuset's unique concept of being out in the real world. This means live content in the podcasts, such as linking them to social media through video and images. Sverigepodden will initially be published every two weeks. A new website has been launched and the first episode has been published there: sverigepodden.se.

Viking Line takes measures in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine

Viking Line condemns the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine and is working to phase out all Russian products. For example, all Russian products in the duty-free range have been removed. In addition, cooperation with all Russian suppliers has been terminated. Several of the vessels run on natural gas from Norway or fuel from Finnish suppliers. For the Viking XPRS in service between Tallinn and Helsinki, Viking Line is working to phase out Russian fuel.
