Safety more important than ever when Swedes choose a holiday destination

Feeling safe on holiday is the most important factor for Swedes when choosing a destination. Half of all respondents in travel agency Ticket's latest survey say that safety and security are crucial when choosing a holiday - an increase of 10 percentage points compared to last year.

The marked increase suggests that global unrest, as well as reports of gang-related violence at home, have made the need for security increasingly influential in our holiday decisions. According to the survey, the price of the trip continues to be an important factor, followed by stable weather at the destination.

Safari holidays attract more and more people

"Somewhat unexpectedly, we are experiencing greater demand for safari holidays than at any time since our start in 2007," says African Tours & Safaris CEO, Susanne Ritzen Österberg. African Tours & Safaris reports a strong increase in both sales and number of travellers in 2024, and the trend continues strongly into 2025. Last year, sales increased by 47 percent, and in the first quarter of 2025, the number of travellers has increased by 51 percent.

Two German cruisers come to the High Coast

The two German shipping companies Phoenix Travel and Hapaq Lloyd comes to Härnösand this year. Thus, there will be a total of eight cruise calls during the season and it will be particularly intense on 22 September when both Birka Gotland and Hapaq Lloyd's ship Hanseatic Nature are in the port at the same time.

The municipality and the Port of Härnösand have signed a co-operation agreement with the ambition to double the number of cruises by 2027 and increase international cruise traffic to High Coast.

Many restaurateurs at the Skövde Food Festival 29-30 August

This year there will be an even wider range of restaurateurs at the Food Festival in Skövde than in previous years. Many of those who participated in 2024 will return in August, such as Restaurant Sällskapet, Mattias Mat, Lilla krogen, Viltmat and Festivalbananen, but several new additions will be visible at this year's festival. This year there will be 32 catering outlets, 18 of which will serve alcohol.

Reflection of the week

Interesting that Greece is so popular with TUI. Although Greece is usually popular, Spain is usually yet more popular. Could it be that protests against over-tourism in Spain are having an impact?
