The beach of Spiaggia di Porto Pollo was the first stop on our motorhome trip around Sardinia. Here we tell you about the beach, but also about our first impressions of Sardinia, where we are travelling by motorhome for the second time.

To Sardinia from Corsica

We travelled to Sardinia by ferry from Corsica. We travelled with Moby Lines, and the journey took only 50 minutes. The trip itself was super smooth and enjoyable, although there was a lot of hassle after an initial cancellation due to bad weather. We've told you about it here.

Spiaggia di Porto Pollo and Spiaggia di Barrabisa

Our first destination, travelling around Sardinia was the beaches Spiaggia di Porto Pollo and Spiaggia di Barrabisa. These two beaches are located right next to each other, separated by a narrow protruding headland.

The two beaches, Porto Pollo and Barrabisa, are located in north-eastern Sardinia, not far from Santa Teresa Gallura where our ferry docked.

A day at the beach - at Porto Pollo and Barrabisa

Our first day in Sardinia, that is, the day after we arrived, we spent hanging out on the beach. We checked out both long sandy beaches: Porto Pollo and Barrabisa.

We walked for a long time along the beaches, and then found a suitable place to lay down our towels.

Around us floated the sails of all the sporty people who wanted to try their skills on the waves.

We were fascinated by the clear turquoise water, but also by the sandy landscape filled with different plants.

The first motorhome nights in Sardinia

We stand willingly camping from time to time, but camping every night when travelling as long as we do gets expensive. Therefore, moving from Corsica to Sardinia had a certain advantage: easier to free camp or stay in cheaper/simpler places overnight.

The first night we camped outside the Eurospin supermarket in Santa Teresa Gallura. Here we stood completely free of charge together with several other motorhomes, which felt safe. The advantage for Eurospin was that we did our big shopping there!

The second night we stayed in a car park in Palau, where you are welcome with a motorhome. Here you pay 1.50 euros per hour between 08-20, and at night you stand for free. There is no service, but you stand quite nicely on grass and it is walking distance to the beach Spiaggia di Porto Pollo.

Continued driving in Sardinia

After this start, at the beach of Spiaggia di Porto Pollo, we have continued our journey in Sardinia. We have had several amazing experiences, which we will tell you more about soon!

Differences Corsica - Sardinia

Differences between Corsica and Sardinia? It is perhaps too early to say, but on the other hand we have visited Sardinia before in our lives. Here are some differences that we think we can see:

  • Everything in Sardinia is bigger - The towns are bigger and the roads are bigger. We also see bigger motorhomes here.
  • The food and culture are different - Of course, the islands have their own unique culture. At the same time, this is Italy. Corsica is France. Yes, there is a difference!
  • It is easier to fricamp - Of course, you have to follow local rules, but the possibility of fricamping (or simple overnight stays of another kind) is clearly greater in Sardinia.
