No, it wasn't this week that there were three continents in one week. It was probably the week before. But this is when we feel the effects of it... A bit of a stomach bug, a lot of sleep deprivation and lots of work to catch up on...

Three continents in one week...
One day we were in Uzbekistan (Asia) and then we were home in Sweden for three days (Europe) before flying to Tunisians (Africa). Both trips were fantastic, but perhaps a little too intense ...

A great week in Tunisia ... and a tough journey home
We had a really nice week in Tunisia, and it was fun to revisit places we really like: the blue and white city Sidi Bou Said, the glorious island Djerba (post from last visit) and the more exotic desert cities Douz and Tozeur. We have a report from our last visit to Tozeur, but I think it will be a new one, because we experienced a lot of new things that we would like to tell you about.

It's not really that far from North Africa to Scandinavia, but the journey home was still long and quite tough. At first we were supposed to fly from Tozeur to Tunis, but to avoid complications, the whole thing was changed to car. This meant that we had a seven-hour drive ahead of us.

The flight from Tunis to Frankfurt left at the ungodly hour of 3am, and after two hours we had to change planes at Frankfurt airport. Yes, you can imagine that we didn't get much sleep that night... And yes, there are more comfortable ways to travel to and from Tunisia!

At home in Stockholm
Now we are home in Stockholm and it is so Lovely! We have hardly been out of the door, with the exception of a few short walks and some shopping in the supermarkets. There have been some travel-related events in Stockholm that we missed, but instead the FREEDOMtravel writer Jonathan Gharbi de Maré participate in an event on North Macedonia - a country we would love to see more of!

This week: Grateful for ...
This week, we are certainly grateful for the recent exciting travel experiences, but we are even more grateful to be able to spend some time at home in the houseboat! It's nice to have time to digest all the impressions, to sort out the pictures and to tackle all the errands and tasks.
Your turn... what are you most grateful for this week?

The week ahead
The coming week begins with a few days at home in the houseboat, but not many... because soon we'll be heading off to Bratislava, Slovakia, for our part. This is a country we have never visited before, so it will be really exciting!
Here on FREEDOMtravel you can expect, among other things, continued reports on the train journey in Uzbekistan (the very best part!) as well as reports on a very topical holiday and guest reports on sailing. Hope you'll join us!

Wow what a trip, I have been to Tunis. But I don't remember the name of the city we stayed in when we were there on a class trip in 9th grade. Nice it was in any case I want to remember.

You can imagine how tired and drained you were after those two trips. As much fun as it is to discover the world, it is easy to forget how important recovery is. I'm grateful that we have the opportunity to make excursions here and there, today it will be both alpacas and chocolate on the schedule! Have a great weekend.

Helena says:
Yes, recovery is needed too... Alpacas and chocolate sound like two great things on the schedule!!! 🙂

Hope you get some peace and quiet now, after all the flying and rushing.
Most grateful for ... it must be that my mum seems to be taking the death of her son better than expected. That she actually seems a bit more cheerful even.
Have a nice weekend!

I sit with similar feelings. Very sleep deprived and grateful for the travelling experiences, but also grateful to be home again. I am also grateful for a trip I booked for April.

Yes, it can be a bit like that when travelling ... 😉 Exciting with travel in April, where are you going?

As interesting and appealing as travelling is, we understand that three continents in one week can be too much (even for you). The advantage of travelling by motorhome is precisely that you can take a few lazy days every now and then. The best of the week is undoubtedly a fridge with a new panel, which cools so well! It's great. Now we can live without electricity again and continue our journey a little more unproblematically!
We wish you a great weekend!

Helena says:
But oh so nice to hear that it is solved with the fridge! Being without a fridge is not fun ... Wish you a nice trip!

What was it that Peter once said (if I remember correctly: You can rest when you are dead. You seem to live by that motto - all in, as it were.
Bratislava - yes, it will be exciting to see what you think of that city. Had a colleague who came from there, but moved to Stockholm in the 1980s. His boyfriend lived here, and at that time Slovakia was not a country where you could be anything but straight...

Yes, he usually says that ”rest can be done in the grave”, so it's quite true ... 😉 Bratislava will be interesting!

Fun to read about Tunisia. I remember well the places you visited and write about but can imagine that it was a little different from when I lived and worked as a tour guide in Tunisia in the mid-1970s. Think a full 50 years ago and then Tunisia was very ”in” as a holiday country. Worked in the places you visited with round trips and enough it is memorable. Promises!
Hope you have time to rest a little too. Important to take in.

Yes, it was quite common to travel to Tunisia from Sweden at that time, wasn't it? A nice country that is worth rediscovering by the Swedes! 🙂

I like the expression ”unchristian times” - because it IS so even though the word itself can feel a little ”wrong” 🙂
I don't want to get up in the middle of the night and take a morning flight ever again. Unfortunately, not being able to sleep properly means I can't enjoy travelling.
But that makes it all the more wonderful to travel with you and others who blog about travel!
07 November 2025 - 19:52
Helena says:
Yes, it is perhaps a strange expression really ... but just 03 at night as departure time required a little stronger expression, haha 😉 We also prefer to fly at more reasonable times, preferably not early in the morning at all ... 😉

I really like the Friday posts, Helena! Understand that it is exhausting when the days become so intense. I also like being in other places, but travelling is rarely my favourite part of that experience. Your Tunis/Frankfurt night, for example, does not sound entirely to my taste... But, but. Some things you simply have to chew in order to get everything else! I have my gratitude project that really helps me through November, otherwise it really wasn't my favourite month before. Going to Tunisia for some sun and warmth sounds absolutely fantastic and I'm happy for you! Now you get to process and land in everyday life and the perhaps simpler life. Surely there is charm in that too? Looking forward to reading about the train journey now. Have a great weekend!

I'm glad to hear that you like the Friday posts! They are nice to write too, to just ”blog off” a little about everything that is here and now ... 😉

Intensive but nice of course! At the same time, I understand that some recovery at home is also needed.
There is a difference between means of transport and means of travel. When we were in the UAE, we were in the car for six hours. It was anything but fun...
