We have just arrived in Norway and wanted to try a new way of travelling with a campervan. Vestre Sorken Feriegård was our very first overnight stay with Nortrip – a nice way to spend the night on local farms.

Vestre Sorken Holiday Farm in Norway
When you download the Nortrip app, you see farms all over Norway (and Sweden) that welcome campervans, and Vestre Sorken Feriegård became a natural choice for us because the farm was on our route, relatively close to the border with Sweden and Värmland.

The farm offers a large dose of history and culture, and at the same time it is beautifully situated by a lake, with both hiking trails and the opportunity to borrow a boat.

The owner, Stefan, welcomed us personally and made our visit special and memorable.

Our experience at Vestre Sorken Holiday Home
We didn't have any special expectations when we arrived, but we were immediately given a parking space that was straight and functional. After some general information we set off for a short walk. The farm is very beautifully situated by a lake, and the walking paths are really nice.

We then agreed to a tour of the small farm museum, which was truly surprising.

The museum displays incredibly beautiful interiors and objects from the 18th century onwards. We were fascinated by everything from paintings and furs to jars, tools and utensils.

Not least, it was fascinating to see objects by Hans Sorken, a famous Norwegian woodcarver and sculptor who lived from 1900 to 1990.

Another experience was the reindeer...! This is Norway's southernmost reindeer grazing area and you can see reindeer here almost daily. For us this was a wow thing, such incredibly beautiful animals!

We also took the opportunity to taste the smoked char that the owner could fix (Note: Must be ordered in advance!). Often a meal like this can be enjoyed at one of the barbecue areas by the water, but when we were here it was so bone-chilling cold, so we sat inside one of the historic houses. At least as cozy!
The smoked fish was served with boiled potatoes, a magical sauce, Norwegian flatbread and ”Bredmykt”. What a dinner!

What is Nortrip?
Vestre Sorken Feriegård is connected to Nortrip – a network of farms and other hosts where campervan travelers can get local experiences and at the same time stay overnight for free.
Nortrip hosts range from farms to breweries, open-air museums and galleries, and the experiences range from wildlife and nature to history, art and – not least – farm shops and local food experiences. The idea is to create encounters between travelers and local hosts while discovering places you might never have found otherwise.
This is how Nortrip works
- You buy the Nortrip guide – an easy-to-navigate app (You can choose Norway or Sweden or Norway + Sweden)
- You get access to a network of farms and other hosts where you can experience local culture and stay overnight with your campervan for free
- The overnight stay is free. but services and experiences on the farm (e.g. electricity, shower, guiding, food, boat rental, etc.) usually cost extra and are paid for on site.
What we like about the app is that it is very easy to use – you can see all the farms on a map and you can book a place (for 0 SEK) with a simple click of a button. When traveling in Norway, you can also choose to see emptying stations and holiday routes on the map – very convenient!
Discount on the Nortrip guide for 14 days
Because we are collaborating with Nortrip, we can offer our readers a discount on the guide for the next two weeks.
The discount applies when you purchase the Nortrip guide between July 12 and July 26 and you choose whether you want to purchase the Nortrip guide for Norway, for Sweden or for both countries.

Is Nortrip something for you?
If you ask us, we'd say that Nortrip is suitable for campervan travelers who like local experiences and local food, and who want to see a slightly more genuine side of Norway or Sweden.
We will continue to visit Nortrip farms during our trip around Norway – interspersed with other places – and we will continue to tell you about our experiences!
Vestre Sorken Feriegård was a fantastic start to our Nortrip adventure. In the coming weeks we will visit more farms around Norway and share our experiences.

What a great idea! And perfect for not having to look for well-maintained campsites where it can get quite crowded during the holiday season.
Then, this way of traveling allows you to see and experience so much more. The fact that it's free to stay here with a camper van is great.
I understand that you were satisfied with your visit.
Exciting to see where you end up next.

Apart from the winter temperature, it was a really nice first stopover for you in Norway. The business idea is brilliant. The farms will definitely do well ;-)
