Motorhome fixed - at last

This morning we hung out at the garage in Caen while they fixed the most pressing issue - the coolant hose. When we left a couple of hours later, the engine light was still on, but they promised that it wasn't an urgent problem and that we could check it out later. (They didn't have time.) But what happened in the afternoon? The engine jumped and the car started running really bad. Panic!

Sainte-Mere-Eglise in Normandy

The Normandy coastline is littered with memorials to the D-Day landings in Normandy on 6 June 1944. One of them is Sainte-Mere-Eglise, where American paratroopers landed early in the morning. One of the paratroopers, John Steele, is particularly memorable because he got stuck in the village's church tower ...

In a car workshop in France

Today we spent the whole day at a car repair shop in Caen here in France. I attempted a few words and phrases in broken (and largely forgotten) school French and Peter reinforced it all with sign language. In the end, there was further conversation via Google Translate in the workshop's office... haha.

Veulettes-sur-Mer in Normandy - seaside caravan site

Now we have found a pitch in Veulettes-sur-Mer on the Normandy coast. The cliffs are dramatic and the wind is so strong that the motorhome door flies open when you open it. The sea is spraying fradga and a lone kite surfer is enjoying himself at high speed on the waves.

Gothenburg - France - the start of the European journey

We have now driven from Gothenburg to France. Night-black motorways through Denmark, windy sea between Rödby - Puttgarden and mile after mile together with all the trucks through Germany. Then some confusing roundabouts through Holland, driving on freshly lit motorways through Belgium and then into France, where we now drive among villages and cows in the countryside.
