After the hike to Preikestolen, our journey continued south along the coast of Norway. The fjord landscape was behind us and a new Norway awaited – with open coastal landscapes, bare cliffs, small fishing villages and eventually the white wooden towns that southern Norway is so famous for. We were in no hurry, but let the journey be filled with spontaneous stops, beautiful views and small towns that we might otherwise never have discovered.

The Old Strynefjellsvegen is not the road you choose to get there the fastest. You choose it when the journey itself is the goal. Here the road winds through a historic mountain landscape with blue-green lakes, snowfields and miles of views – one of the most beautiful roads we have driven in Norway.

Trollstigen is one of Norway's most iconic tourist routes - a winding mountain road with eleven hairpin bends, dramatic cliffs and waterfalls cascading down the mountainside. During our motorhome trip in Norway, it was an obvious destination, and we were not disappointed.

The Atlantic Road in Norway – and smoked salmon in Bud

There are roads that just take you from A to B. And then there are roads that are the destination itself. The Atlantic Road on Norway's west coast is only just over eight kilometers long, but offers dramatic bridges, ocean views and several nice stops along the way. Add to that the charming fishing village of Bud, where we ate fantastically delicious smoked salmon and spent the night in our camper van, and you have a perfect excursion destination.

Strada della Forra - Italy's most spectacular serpentine road
