Ski tours in Eastern Europe

Do you choose sunshine holidays or skiing trips during the winter months? Or maybe both? And where do you go when you want to ski? "We usually prioritise sunshine or visits to big cities, but at Christmas 2008 we took a skiing week in Sälen. We had fantastic luck with the weather and it was really nice on the slopes!

Growing up with skiing

For me (Helena) it was perhaps extra fun to go skiing again because I grew up with skiing holidays every year. We usually went to the Swedish mountains when I was little, but once we went to Trysil in Norway and another time to Harz in Germany.

Going to Germany was particularly exciting - I was 10 years old and it was my first time outside Scandinavia. The wall against East Germany was there at the time and from our hotel you could see the armed soldiers guarding the border ...

Easy travelling in Eastern Europe

Nowadays it is much easier to travel in the eastern parts of Europe! In recent years we have been keen to try the ski resorts of Eastern Europe. We like Eastern Europe in general. There is that feeling of travelling into something partly unexplored. At the same time there is beautiful nature, interesting history - and you always get a lot for your money.

This is 'Europe's smallest higher mountain range'. It has the feel of the Alps, but is much less crowded and more affordable than the classic destinations. Sounds like an interesting skiing destination!
