Record number of motorhomes

Over the past ten years, the number of motorhomes in Sweden has more than doubled. The first quarter of this year shows a continued increase in newly registered motorhomes, by 11 per cent.

Most caravan dense in Europe

Sweden already has the highest density of caravans in Europe with 294 caravans per 10 000 inhabitants. For motorhomes, we come second with 69 motorhomes per 10 000 inhabitants. More than 1 million Swedes go on holiday in a caravan or motorhome every year. This is according to HRF, the National Association of the Caravan Industry, which also reports two trends:

Trend 1: Modern and comfortable vehicles

Modern caravans and motorhomes are both comfortable and equipped with all kinds of technology. Many have WiFi, a central vacuum cleaner and underfloor heating. Mobile homes are becoming more and more like permanent homes. "It is possible to build in most of the technical features that you have in your house or apartment", says Tomas Haglund, President of HRF.

Trend 2: Compact motorhomes

While many motorhomes are large, there is a trend towards more compact vehicles. Many people are choosing to buy a fitted van. "These new hybrids are really smart. They have every conceivable comfort indoors but are still easy to drive, get around everywhere and also use less fuel. Compact living is also in vogue in the caravan industry," says Tomas Haglund.
