Yesterday, as we drove south in Sardinia, we felt a bit cheated. Firstly, we did not get out to the beaches at Emerald Coast with our motorhome and secondly, it felt like we left the charming small roads and deserted nature of Corsica behind us. Here in Sardinia, the roads are bigger, the people are more numerous, the cars drive faster... Well, we finally arrived at Cala Gonone, which is really nice!

Beaches and pitches
Cala Gonone is located on the east coast of Sardinia, beautifully surrounded by high mountains. There are several fine beaches (the most beautiful of which are only accessible by boat) and a good caravan park. Camping Car Palmasera is a manned site with all the services you need (emptying, waste disposal, water, toilets, showers) 300 metres from the water. We pay 20 euros/day, which includes electricity and (very good!) WiFi.
Motorised boat trip
Today we rented a motor boat here at Cala Gonone, and travelled around this paradise in Sardinia. It's something you just must to do when you get here. Cala Gonone is located along a long bay with steep high mountains and a number (8-9) of small beautiful sandy beaches, accessible only by boat.
The drive along the bay takes about 40 minutes by motorboat (or 'dirigible' as they're called), and all along the way you're mesmerised by the incredibly steep rock faces, imaginative rock formations, deep caves and crystal clear water. We moor off one beach after another and swim in. The water feels good on our skin, we can see the bottom no matter how deep it is, and the bats come out of the caves and circle around us.
Hiring a tiller
Renting a tiller for a day costs 80 euros + petrol, and it's definitely worth it! The price includes an umbrella and a cooler. In the latter we packed water, each beer, each tuna wrap and fruit. Absolutely fantastic to be able to cruise around on your own all day!
If you still want to bring the price down, you can join organised boat trips - from about €10/person to about €35/person depending on how many beaches and caves you want to see. Bottom line: Go here! This is an amazing place on earth!
Cala Gonone, Sardinian paradise
Peter always says that he doesn't need to go back to the same place twice, because there might be something new and unique around the next corner. Now he has bitten his own tail because he wants to experience this once more in his life. We think that Corsica is amazing but this is the paradise in Sardinia that you should experience before you die.

Bigger roads combined with a motorhome doesn't sound so bad to me 😉.
Looks nice!

It WAS cold in the water! It is the Atlantic Ocean that is causing the problem. Stupid Atlantic Ocean! 😉

I'm glad you got some value for your money and found a good and affordable place to park. And nice to be close to the sea and have a good view. The pictures are tempting!

Good with a new place at a better price. AND to avoid that "all inclusive" feeling from the big campsite. Yes, the pictures are really tempting. Lovely.

Ama de casa, see what you mean about the roads, but it's also higher speeds, more cars and less holiday feeling... 😉.
Steve, yep! 🙂
BP, no Sardinia is to be explored! 😉
Ditte, yes here is nice, so now it feels good again! 🙂
Annika, really nice! There is wifi, but no pools, no shows, no play leaders... 😉 .
