11 questions about travelling by motorhome

Some time ago we received Liebster Award, which was circulating among travel bloggers to showcase and discover new blogs. Now we've received it once again, this time from the blog Adventures with Xoe and Olivia. We thank you so much for this! This time, the questions are a bit more "motorhome" in nature, so even if we don't pass on the award again, we're happy to answer the questions!

1. Which destination in Sweden is your favourite?

It seems almost impossible to choose one Destination. We like the Stockholm archipelago, but also Smögen (all the good seafood!). Öland is also nice to visit in the summer, and Trosa is a favourite stop with the motorhome...

2. Do you prefer free camping, pitches or campsites when travelling with a motorhome?

We like variety! Freecamping is perfect when you can stand in the countryside without disturbing anyone, and when your motorhome is fully charged with electricity, water and food. Pitches are usually preferred when you want to visit a city or attraction. Camping can be great if you want to be close to nature and swimming, and when you need washing machines and other 'luxuries'.

3. What is your strongest travelling memory?

Our 1 year long trip around Europe is a long and amazing travel memory in itself! There are many special memories from that trip: travelling around the vertiginous cliffs of the Gorge du Verdon in France, free camping for several nights in a row on a deserted beach in Sardinia and learning how to pick mussels, being invited to the homes of hospitable people in Macedonia and trying on Albanian holiday clothes, etc. etc.

4. What is your most unusual destination?

If we're talking about campervan holidays, perhaps the most unusual thing is that we've turned around in Albania and Macedonia. These two countries are perhaps a bit unusual for Swedish motorhome travellers, but were a real surprise. Beautiful nature, friendly people and incredibly low prices. Albania also has a long and beautiful coastline!

5. What do motorhome trips mean to you?

Lots! We got the motorhome in 2008 and it has allowed us to travel in a way that we would never have been able to do otherwise. There's a freedom to travelling by motorhome - you go wherever you want and you don't have to plan ahead. We've been able to take teenagers down to Europe and keep the budget down by cooking for ourselves, we've seen a lot more of Sweden than we would have without a motorhome and - we got the chance to travel around Europe for a whole year!

6. Give a local travel tip!

If you want to visit Stockholm by motorhome, Långholmen's motorhome campsite is a convenient place to stay. The campsite is open in the summer and is close to the metro and most of the city's attractions.

7. What are your immediate travel plans?

Our next travel plans without a motorhome are the Czech Republic (press trip) and Poland (visiting friends) in July. Our next travel plans with motorhome is the Nolia fair in Piteå in August and the Elmia fair in Jönköping in September.

8. How and where do you travel when not travelling by camper van?

We do a lot of travelling even without a motorhome. We've travelled on the Trans-Siberian Railway from Moscow to Beijing, boated between the islands of the Philippines, backpacked through Kenya and Tanzania and gone on a sun and sea holiday to the Crimean Peninsula. More recently, the blog has enabled us to go on a number of organised press trips, including to Morocco, Riga and Hungary.

9. Which Nordic destination do you recommend? Why?

We recommend Iceland, even though we haven't been there with a motorhome. Iceland has great nature and a lot to offer in terms of adventure and good food, among other things. We recently wrote the post Iceland Fever - 5 reasons to love Iceland.

10. Which European country do you appreciate the most? Why?

It is very difficult to choose one country, but then we have to say Croatia. Croatia has it all for the motorhome traveller: a long and stunningly beautiful coastline, charming medieval villages with historic sights and national parks with fascinating scenery. What's more, the roads are good, many people speak English, there are plenty of campsites and prices are reasonable.

11. What is your dream trip? Why?

Adventure always attracts us, so we would like to go even further east with our motorhome. Discovering Russia, the Baltics, Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria by motorhome would be interesting!
