For several days we've been hanging out at the Colours of Ostrava music festival in Ostrava in the eastern Czech Republic. We will tell you more about the festival and the concerts later, but we have to start by showing some pictures from the festival area. This is definitely the coolest festival environment we've ever seen!
Table of contents
Colours of Ostrava Festival
The Colours of Ostrava festival is organised every year in Ostrava and since 2012 the festival is held in Dolní Vitkovice - an old area of blast furnaces and ironworks.

Old industrial area gets new life
The big rusty industrial buildings, the long pipes and the huge gas bells should perhaps be a blot on the city, but they provide a fantastically cool backdrop to the festival.

You wander around the abandoned industrial buildings as neon lights flood the rusty walls - and suddenly, somewhere in one of the towers, spectacular fires sparkle.
There are food and beer stalls everywhere and of course the area is full of music stages. Here's a little picture bomb describing the actual festival environment. You can also read more at festival website.

Concerts on stage
We saw some concerts, or parts of concerts on the music stages, and here are pictures from them as well.

Bolt Tower
One of the buildings on the site is the 78 metre high 'Bolt Tower'. The tower is built on top of the blast furnace and is designed to resemble the fire that used to rage here. Today you can get to the tower by lift and then stairs, to check out the view or visit the café located up there. The tower is named after world champion and Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt, who has visited Ostrava several times in the 'Ostrava Golden Spike'.

nils-åke hansson says:
The festival area in an old ironworks among blast furnaces and dog tracks can get even cooler. The hope is that the girls will be left alone to enjoy the good atmosphere and not be groped.
You really get to experience a lot
Stay well

The original leak! It's great that this industrial environment is being utilised and I understand that both the mood and atmosphere are at their peak. Wishing you continued good days.

It was certainly a different environment for a festival.

Matts Torebring says:
How cool! Many people just let things fall into disrepair, especially real estate. As a true entrepreneur, I usually think, "What could this be used for"; "Is it possible to use this for something". Here they have succeeded!

Love such environments! Great that they have not demolished the blast furnaces but use the area for concerts. You should send the link to this post to the City of Stockholm. Because Cementa's plant in Liljeholmen is on its last legs, as it will be moved to Loudden. There is a similar area that could be utilised just like there in the Czech Republic.

Ama de casa, haha, love your clue 😉 .
Musikanta, it was really an experience to walk around here! And it's great that they found a way to use the old industrial area!
Lennart, right?
Lena, glad you liked the pictures! We loved to walk around here and look and take pictures, soooo cool environment to experience 🙂 🙂.
Nils-Åke, yes, one can really hope so! What we experienced from the people at the festival was that it was a very nice and friendly atmosphere. People were happy, but we saw very few who were too drunk and we saw no fights or anything like that.
Steve, haha, it's so nice to know each other a bit like this in the blog world 😉.
Maria, yes it is a very special environment with all the abandoned buildings and industries. Fit sooo heavenly perfect for the festival 🙂.
Lena in Wales, yes I thought it was so cool that they found a perfect way to use this area!
Lisa, right?
Ditte, I also think it's so smart to find a good way to utilise an area like this. It really suited the festival perfectly!
Gunnel, yes, I have never experienced anything like this, but the area really added to the atmosphere of the festival in some way!
Inga Magnusson, there wasn't much mud here either (despite some rain), as it was mostly gravel and not grass.
Geddfish, I also think they have done well. And then I say as I wrote to Steve, it's fun to know each other a little in the blog world 😉.
Matts Torebring, isn't it? This is an area that would otherwise be quite boring. Now they've thought about it and found a new great area of use!
Annie, I also thought it was really smart, and I really liked the atmosphere of this area!
BP, glad you liked it (as several previous here guessed ;)). I actually do not know that facility in Liljeholmen, I will probably have to check it out 😉.

Definitely a different environment for a festival. Hopefully there is better women's peace there, because otherwise there seem to be many nooks and crannies.

Jenn, the festival area was really cool! Thanks for letting us know things you see on the blog. The idea is that we will sell adverts on the blog 😉.
Anette, right? I also like the contrasts 🙂 .
Elisabeth, yes, one hopes so! We saw only happy and pleasant atmosphere (very little of excessive drunkenness) and have also heard that there were no major problems.
Ida, glad you like them! 🙂
